Big Breasts Win Verdict For Japanese Gravure Idol

Odd news for today:

A Japanese pin-up model says that her big breasts have not only boosted her career — they also helped her overturn a court verdict.

The bikini model, who goes by her professional name Serena Kozakura, was cleared after a court decided she was too well-endowed to squeeze into a room through a hole, as she had been found guilty of earlier.

“I used to hate my body so much,” Kozakura, who has appeared in product commercials on television, told the private Asahi network in an interview aired Tuesday.

“But it was my breasts” that won in court, she said.

The case was splashed through the Japanese media on Tuesday, with the Asahi network even inviting her to demonstrate how she could not fit through the opening.

Kozakura, 38, was convicted last year of property destruction after a man said she kicked in the wooden door of his room and crawled inside, apparently because he was with another woman.

Kozakura had said the man made the hole himself.

In her appeal, the defence counsel held up a plate showing the size of the hole and said that she could not squeeze through with her 110-centimetre (44-inch) bust.

“The judges were very good-mannered as they showed no expressions on their faces. I guess they’re well-trained,” Kozakura said.

North Korean Girls Flourish In Pink Trade

So reports the Japan Times:

As a Korean living in Japan, Yoon (a pseudonym) is hardly unique. Over half a million ethnic Koreans reside here. The surprising thing about Yoon is where she came from ・North Korea.

She’s one of an estimated 1,000 North Koreans who have escaped their country and ended up living in Japan, Weekly Playboy says. Like Yoon, nearly all are female and work in the sex industry, according to the magazine’s source, a documentary filmmaker from South Korea, whose name is undisclosed.

How do they manage to flee the world’s most secretive country and end up here? Apparently through a long and complicated journey.

“Most of them first go to China and then they move on to third countries because the Chinese authorities are strict these days,” the source explains

“If they have money, they can buy a phony passport and then fly to South Korea. Those without the necessary cash go via land routes, to Southeast Asia or Mongolia. They’re all aiming to make it to South Korea in the end.”

But once in South Korea, the refugees often have a new problem to deal with ・discrimination. Southerners tend to look down on their neighbors from the North, and the labor market offers them few opportunities. If the refugees are female and in their 20s or early 30s, one of the few types of work available is in the sex or nightlife industries.

“They find a lot of discrimination at the workplace and they get paid less than their South Korean co-workers. And that’s why they look to Japan,” the filmmaker says.

Boot-Thieving Pervert Arrested

A man arrested for stealing dozens of pairs of women’s boots has told investigators that he smelled them to imagine what the women who wore them looked like, police said.

Kazuhiro Watanabe, 33, from Okagaki, Fukuoka Prefecture, admitted to the allegations of theft during questioning. “I got excited when I smelled them and fantasized over what the women who wore them looked like,” Watanabe was quoted as telling investigators.

Edison Chen Sex Pictures Uploaded By “Kira” [陈冠希不雅淫照事件]

A scandal has overtaken the Chinese entertainment industry: actor Edison Chen’s personal library of naked pictures and screen captures from sex videos he filmed of famous women (including Gillian Chung, Cecilia Cheung, Bobo Chan, etc) has been leaked onto the net by a mysterious individual calling himself “Kira.”

The nickname “Kira” is taken from the Japanese manga/anime/film Death Note, and just like Death Note’s Kira, this guy seems to view himself as some sort of righteous crusader. Much like the fictional Kira, he taunts police as he gradually continues his campaign, and his continuing releases of photos/videos are bound to cause more misery for Asian celebs. It is rumored that his future uploads could include naked photos of Japanese actress Chiaki Kuriyama.

Net News Asia has some analysis on the connections between Death Note and the Edison Chen sex picture scandal:

In Death Note, Light jealously guards his book, knowing that if anyone else got hold of it, his days would be numbered. Edison wasn’t so smart. As we all know, he stupidly shared his Death Note, and his career was its first victim.

Over the past fortnight, some person or persons unknown going by the name of Kira, has been using the contents of Edison’s laptop to dish out death and misfortune to the careers of anyone whose image appears in it.

As Light grows increasingly cocksure, his campaign to clean up the planet turns into a game with the police that ultimately leads to his doom. Judging by his frequent updates and taunting messages, it seems the online Kira, like his celluloid namesake, is also a bit of a smartarse who’s enjoying the game, no matter how many people get hurt in the process.

He must be enjoying the notoriety as well, because there’s a disturbing number of people on Web forums applauding Kira’s vigilante justice against what they see as hypocritical celebrities.

Police are struggling to find those responsible for the picture leak and have even arrested 9 people for distributing the pictures, sparking free speech demonstrations in Hong Kong. They have yet to find the person who allegedly stole the images from Edison’s laptop, leaving the net to come up with lots of wacky theories about the identify of “Kira.”. [A few of my Chinese and Thai friends are convinced that "Kira" is not afraid of the police because they believe he is actually in Japan.]

Update [February 20 2008]: Kira is still at large, and more pics of Edison and Bobo Chen have been released in the last few days. Meanwhile, the Chinese government is censoring Baidu searches for Edison Chen sex pics and an underworld figure has offered a HK$500,000 ($91,000) reward to hack off one of Chen’s hands.

Update [February 29 2008]: Edison Chen has proposed to his girlfriend Vincy Yeung in a desperate attempt to avoid triad wrath. She did not accept his proposal.

Some also believe that Edison Chen leaked the sex pics himself….

Update (March 14 2008): A man has been charged with stealing the pics from Edison’s computer.
