Spraying crops in Japan with an RC helicopter

YouTuber Talbrech has posted a video clip of an RC helicopter being used to spray crops in Japan:

We woke up this morning to the sound of an RC helicopter spraying what I assume is pesticide on the rice field outside our back window.

With so many farmers using small lots of land in Japan, crop dusting airplanes are out the question. Most small fields are sprayed with devices like these (knapsack sprayers), but I suppose that RC helicopters would come in handy for slightly larger fields.

    Cucumber cutting champions

TV Tokyo’s “Champions” assembled a group of chefs and held a cucumber cutting battle:

The object was to see who could cut the most cucumber slices in three minutes. One chef was a specialist in Japanese cuisine using a Japanese knife, one was a specialist in French cuisine using a western knife, and the other was an expert Chinese chef (there was also a celebrity contestant, but he doesn’t count). Each slice had to be under 3 millimeters. Watch the clip and find out who won!

Bonus clip: This isn’t exactly new, but here’s a related video of a drifting car cutting a cucumber.

Endless Edamame – Soybean Simulator Toy

The toy company that brought the world the puchi puchi bubble wrap simulator will be releasing a new toy later this month: the Mugen Edamame (“Endless Soybean”). This new toy seeks to simulate the enjoyable experience of popping beans out of a soybean pod, and as this video shows, people seem to enjoy it:

The makers of the toy believe that the act of popping soybeans out of a pod can be just as enjoyable as eating the beans. If that isn’t entertaining enough for consumers, they’ve also added cute little faces to the middle bean in each pod, so that collectors will have to buy many of the Mugen Edamame to obtain all 12 normal faces and the one special secret bean.

The Mugen Edamame will hit stores on April 26th. Those of you who don’t mark your calendars can regularly check its official homepage for a countdown.
