Would you like a fake rolex with that Olympic t-shirt?

  • More at Japan Probe Friends...

For those that missed their report on fake brand goods that aired before the Beijing Olympics, FTV has aired a new report on fake Olympic t-shirts being sold on the streets the day after the Olympics ended:

The t-shirts are being sold along with other popular counterfeit brand goods, and the sales are going on in broad daylight in front of the Bird’s Nest stadium that hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the games. Foreign tourists are being sold the illegal goods in plain sight of police officers, who walk by without taking any action.

FTV’s staff buys a few of the Olympic staff shirts being sold after the street salesman assures them that it is not a fake. They take the shirts to actual Olympic staff members, who tell them they’ve bought a cheap imitation. Olympic t-shirts purchased on the street also prove to be fake, something that should be obvious given the fact that the shirts are being sold for one fourth the price of official shirts.

When confronted afterwords about their products being fake, most street vendors declined to be interviewed. However, one vendor went into an angry rant about how just about everything out there in the world is fake, even people (FTV took this as a reference to the lip-syncing scandal).

Beautiful Chinese girls at the Beijing Olympics

The Olympics are ending tonight, so let’s find out who is the most beautiful Chinese woman doing Olympic-related work in Beijing!

The following clip was from the same Japanese TV show that looked for the most beautiful girl in Italy, Colombia, France, and Taiwan. As in the previous cases, the idea is to find a pretty girl and have her introduce the host to a friend she considers better-looking than herself, repeating the process until a set number is reached and that country’s most beautiful woman is found. In this case, instead of using the entire population of China to calculate how many women they needed to to find, the number of Chinese participating in Olympic-related work was used.

    Here is the result:

    Angry ‘Olympic Ojisan’ leaves Beijing

Sankei/MSN reports that Naotoshi Yamada, an 82 year-old super fan famously fan known as “Olympic Ojisan” because of his energetic cheering at past Olympic games, has left the Beijing Olympics in anger.

When asked by the press about his reasons for leaving, he said that he was shocked by the bad way Chinese authorities treated visitors. Yamada claims that many Japanese fans were not allowed to attend Judo matches, despite a large number of empty seats in the arena. He attended many Olympic games over the last 50 or so years, and it was the first time he’d encountered anything like this.

Yamada was also angry about the behavior of Chinese fans at sporting events, as well as the air quality:

The booing was outrageous. There’s never been an Olympic Games like this one. They aren’t qualified to hold the Olympics. Moreover, the air was dirty, causing pain in my throat. This will be the first time I’ve gone to the Olympics and not stayed until the Closing Ceremony.

One could easily blow off Yamada’s complaints as the rantings of a loony old man, but he’s not the only one complaining about empty venues turning away fans, nor is he the only source to mention booing from Chinese fans (China’s state-controlled press has claimed otherwise). On the other hand, footage of the city and media reports show that Beijing’s smog levels are quite low compared to what had been expected before the games.

China deports Japanese ‘Free Tibet’ protester

It should come as no shock that a Japanese citizen who took part in a Pro-Tibetan protest in Beijing has been detained and deported:

A Japanese pro-Tibetan independence protester detained by Chinese authorities for demonstrating in Beijing was deported from China early Thursday, Japanese Embassy officials said.

Beijing’s Public Security Bureau notified the Japanese Embassy in the capital that Pema Yoko, a 25-year-old Londoner born to a Tibetan father and a Japanese mother, left here on a plane bound for a European destination, they said.

Seven American citizens were also detained and deported for participating in the protest. Chinese police also attacked and detained an ITN journalist who had been at the scene reporting. The international press has reported that the Chinese government has also been turning down all applications for demonstrations, despite previous claims that such activities would be allowed during the Olympics in several designated “protest zones” in Beijing.

Meanwhile, in Tokyo a crazy right winger was arrested for swinging around a sword in front of the U.S. Embassy. He also threw a message bottle “to send a protest to the US president” about America’s North Korea policy.
