I once drank a lemon-flavored sparkling water that tasted like cucumbers.
I wasn’t exactly thrilled.

I was in Tokyo last week and saw this in the local 7-11 store. Sadly, the day of my flight back home I went to buy a bottle to take home and… gone, like a weird episode of Twilight Zone. Like it was all a dream. When they say “limited time” you’d better believe it.

Haven’t bought anything from Pepsi in years, but that looks bad enough to try.

I agree Ken, it does look bad enough to try. I understand that Santory is somehow involved with this product launch. Does anyone know the details?

Sorry, coke does stupid stuff like this. In Atlanta GA, at world of Coke, you can try all the weird flavors they offer all over the world. The soft drink companies, like all other companies that are global, are “market sensitive”. Meaning that they will make whatever the particular market is interested in. Not all people like cola, but they will buy cucumber etc….

umm…I’m not sure why a lot of people here seems to find this weird or strange….where are you people from!?? Cucumber water is pretty common served in spa, restaurants, it’s really as “strange” as lemon in water (again, often served in restaurants….). If that’s consider weird, you people need to get out more.

Where are we from? Well, I’m from Pennsylvania and I’ve never heard of any type of cucumber drink, so yeah I find it odd and unusual. Why do you have a problem with people finding things that they aren’t exposed to to be odd? There’s nothing odd about lemon in water because it’s something I’ve been frequently exposed to, this however is new to me.
I find it weird and strange for you to be so taken back by other people’s reactions to something uncommon for them.

I’m from Jamaica and we make a cucumber drink which is very good. Also, anytime I go to restaurants I always order sliced cucumbers in my water…

Get off your high horse, cucumber drinks are NOT common. They may exist inside elite circles (sorry, but 99% of the population doesn’t frequent spas), in other countries, but I’ve never seen cucumbers used in any beverage, and I’m a bit better traveled than most, and live in LA which most people like to think is full of people eating, drinking, and wearing strange “trendy” things. This IS unusual, and it is NOT the same as lemon in water, which is served everywhere, unlike cucumbers which, again, are clearly not common enough that any of us have seen them used this way.

The scent of cucumbers is an aphrodesiac for women. Maybe that’s why. If it were men it would be grape or vanilla, which are the aphrodesiac scents for men.
I could make all kinds of suggestive comments as to why. (the quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, a woman on the other hand can only be aroused by cucumbers for one reason I can think of…)

I hope it’s still available when I get back to Japan. I love cucumber (rather than blood, tzatziki courses through my veins), so I’ll have to give it a try. Though if anybody could mess this up, it’s Pepsi… they still haven’t gotten “cola” right yet.

Cucumber doesn’t seem that odd considering melon soda sounds strange to many Americans. I find cucumber to be a light and crisp food, so maybe this actually will be tasty? Sort of reminds me of Crystal-Pepsi though (or Crystal Tab, Clear Coke, etc). Most likely it’ll end up with the same fate.

Sounds so scary I’d have to try a 20oz.
And to all the “coke would never try anything like that” comments, I have one product that is on the shelves today: Coke Blak.
All the taste of a flat can of coke mixed with coffee.

It seems like some people don’t realize this…the reason it is marketed in Japan is because some of the Asian countries have their own sodas that are vegetable flavored. Why? I guess they actually like them. Major corporations know that would never sell here because we, Americans as a whole, are basically unhealthy idiots. Knowing me, I would try this drink just to spite this annoying truth.

This isn’t cucumber juice: it’s a soda. I highly doubt it will contain much, if any, real cucumber. It won’t be a healthy drink.
Actually, putting cucumber slices in water is not an uncommon practice. It’s quite refreshing, and very healthy. Of course “Cucumber Flavor” in a Pepsi brand soft drink is probably not very healthy, but hey, people will buy it.

I’d love to try this. Drinks made with soursop, jackfruit, and other “weird”-flavored things hold the highest appeal for me. If only they would bring back that wonderful Orbitz drink, I would be so happy…does anybody else remember this?

Attention World: I have tried the aforementioned beverage and YEA, it dost not taste like cucumber! Rather, it’s a weirdly fruity cola drink that doesn’t actually taste that bad. But not cucumber. Not tasting the cucumber.

I just tried one. It’s pretty tasty actually. Like a dry ginger ale but with a slight cucumbery instead of the gingery one. Really refreshing. And, ya, it would probably go really well with vodka or Pimm’s No 1.
For people who have had ramune, it tastes sorta like a cucumber ramune but without the fun marble top thing.
The cucumber flavour isn’t really strong, which is probably why I like it. I expected it to be an overpowering CUCUMBER flavour like watermelon candies are really melony. It’s really subtle, but it’s not like a cucumber tastes that strongly of cucumber.

People do quite frequently drink vegetables, like tomato juice and cocktails like bloody mary’s. So its not that far fetched of an idea that someone would like to try to cucumber soda.

Why is there so much foam? I tried pouring it into a glass, but it bubbled up like dish detergent. It even smells like dish detergent.

Either you 1) haven’t experienced a lot of sodas in Japan or 2) opened a bottle that had been shaken quite a bit
It tastes like a cross between an actual cucumber and crystal pepsi…
I really didn’t like it…
I didn’t even find it refreshing on a hot day…
now i still have 80% of a bottle left that I surely will not finish
uhh…. “Cucumber water” is a lot better that this.
I’d have to agree that cucumber isn’t odd. Melon soda is quite delicious.
I don’t think it will quite be like Crystal Pepsi in that they tried to make Crystal Pepsi their new product and put a lot of advertising money into it… whereas this is just another summer flavour in the konbini lineup… only destined for a short summer run….
kind of like last year’s pineapple fuzz canada dry gingerale.

I wish someone would send me one of these! I used to live in Japan and really miss having access to these cool promotions!!
My students used to call me Pepsi woman, and the children would cry… abunai sensei, because their parents told them pepsi would kill them and they feared for my life!
Now I’m in Maine, if anyone in Japan wants to chat, kirkette AT gmail.com
