Chinese iPad Game: Slaughtering Japanese to “Protect” the Senkaku Islands

The Mobisights blog has reported about a new game that is available to iPad users in China. It is called, “Defend the Diaoyu Islands” (保卫钓鱼岛), referring to the Senkaku Islands:

Defend the Diaoyu Islands, for they are the inalienable territory of China! Recently, the Japanese government has been saber-rattling, making attempts to seize the Diaoyu Islands and even arresting our fishermen compatriots while selling off fish from the islands. Today, you can vent your anger by trying this game demo, working together to eradicate all Japanese devils landing on the island and turning them back towards their own lands. Defend the Diaoyu Islands!

It is a rather strange description, considering Japan has not been trying to “seize” the islands at all. The Senkaku Islands have been under Japanese control for well over a century. If Chinese wanted to “defend” the islands, they would first have to invade and occupy them. (The People’s Republic of China began to claim that the islands were Chinese territory after the 1970s.)

The blogger also states that the game has “71 stages to it, with each stage presumably representing a different island” in the island chain. However, according to Wikipedia, the Senkakus consist of just five tiny uninhabited islets and 3 even smaller barren rocks. There wouldn’t be much space to fit defending soldiers, let alone waves of attackers.

Screenshots of the game on iTunes show stupid-looking samurai swordsmen, WW2 Imperial soldiers, sumo wrestlers, and ninja girls being blown to pieces by Chinese guns.
