CNN’s Kyung Lah Leaving Japan
TV Newser reports that CNN Tokyo correspondent Kyung Lah will be going back to America:
Lah has been with CNN’s Tokyo bureau since 2007 and was one of the first reporters on the scene after the earthquake and tsunami last year. Prior to her stint in Tokyo, Lah was a Washington-based reporter for CNN Newsource.
This is probably good news for Japan. Few of us in the Japan blogosphere liked Kyung Lah’s crude, misinformed, trashy, and stupid reports about Japan. Her replacement will probably not be great, but it is hard to imagine that CNN could find another reporter as bad as Lah.
She will be going to CNN’s Los Angeles bureau, which is familiar territory for Lah. She’ll be reporting from a place where she actually has knowledge of the local culture and language, so the quality of her reporting might improve. (Lah was a reporter for KNBC Los Angeles until she was fired in 2005 after it was discovered that she had been having an affair with her producer. )
