Dalai Lama Visits Tohoku

The Dalai Lama recently visited areas of Tohoku that had been heavily damaged by the March 11th earthquake and tsunami:

The 76-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader offered words of encouragement to survivors during the service at Saiko Temple in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture.

With about 1,000 people attending, the Dalai Lama said that as a human being he shares the pain of survivors who lost their loved ones, and that he hopes people will be able to overcome their sorrow and rebuild their lives.

After the visit, the Dalai Lama met reporters in Tokyo. When asked if he opposed nuclear energy, he said that he supported “using nuclear energy for peaceful means as a way to bridge the socioeconomic gap in developing countries in the absence of more efficient alternative energy sources.” He also met with Japanese government officials.

If there really is a god(or gods), why do millions of absolutely-innocent
women and children die in natural disasters or wars on our planet?

Having said that, I respect those who practice their religions and I think
most religions do more good than harm.

You have no idea about Buddhism, huh ?
Buddhism doesn’t propagate the existence of an almighty being.
Buddha himself even said he’s not a god, nor an apostle or whatever of some kind of god.
He even said he didn’t receive his “knowledge” from a god, but by meditating (basically, independent thinking) and people shouldn’t accept crap like dogmas and think for themselves. Warning people blindly following him or others (authorities e.g.).

Nevertheless, of course beliving in some imaginary being is retarded.

you do know that you can’t be both agnostic and atheist… Agnostics DON’T KNOW about the existance of god, and atheists flat out refuse it.

That said, as a fellow atheist (if there is a god, he sucks more than hitler for letting some crap happen), Budism and Shitoism are, to me, the only benefic religions in the whole world.

That of atheism and that of agnosticism.
Nothing wrong with being both. I am primarily an atheist, since there is no god-like being, but if there were, it would matter (agnosticism POV).

Most of the time I think that the Dalai Lama is a useless old fraud living the easy life. But if his visit gives some comfort to the victims of the tsunami then OK.

Based on what I’ve learned over the years, I think the Dailai Lama is a good and decent person.

He wish freedom for his people and I respect that.

However, we don’t live in a perfect world and there are truly eveil people and regimes that
rule many parts of the world.

Sure, it’s nice to encourage peaceful and non-military method, but does does it really work
when it comes to discussing Tibet with China?

Most German people were nice people who did not like the Nazi one bit during the 1930s/40s.
However, they did nothing and allowed the Nazis to come to power. By then, it was too late.

It was mos likely the same deal in in Japan. I believe most Japanese didn’t agree with Japan’s
invasions of other countris during WWII. They didn’t
