Japan Wins 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup

Congratulations to team Japan for their 2011 World Cup victory:

Japan defeated the U.S. at a seesaw match 3-1 on penalties after they equalized twice a deficit through midfielder Aya Miyama and Homare Sawa to grab the first ever FIFA World Champions title 2011 in Germany in front of some 48,800 spectators at Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt on Sunday.

Americans become very petulant when they lose. They will always try to blame their loss on anything (the refs, the other team, the venue) but themselves. Well done Japan.

I won’t disagree that some U.S. athletes definitely do this and need a swift kick in the ass and ego, but I also see plenty of others that accept the outcome, shake hands with their opponents, and try to play better next time.

Maybe we’re watching different channels.

For all the shit talking my fellow Americans did, I’d consider this loss Karmic Congratulations to Japan, with everything that been happening there, I hope this will lift their spirits a bit!

Congrats Japan! I normally don’t pay any attention to sports of any kind, but since this was posted on Japan Probe, I couldn’t help but notice. I hope this victory brings many Japanese people some happiness!

finally! Man that was an absolutely titanic struggle. Japan just refused to be beaten. i thought japan would win but not by hanging on by their fingernails until the end.
Sawa was frekin awesome and the goalkeeper was immense and kumagai (who had abby wambach in her pocket for most of the match with almost a foot of height difference) you have to have big shiny brass ovaries to take the last penalty like that.
and you know what else.
Those bowling pin fans were there as well.
I really hope we get to hear of all the crazy stuff that’s going down in japan right now

My favorite Japanese sports person – Homare Sawa – came through big time.

Her final goal was sensational. A degree of difficulty under the cicumstances far greater than many more spectacular looking goals.

And perhaps the general media here might now have sharpened their “sports skills” and be able to analyse sports more objectively and thoroughly. The constant looking for excuses before the event (and in the case of a loss) after the event is amateurish in the least.

This team ROCKED before the tournament began.

There are some Americans online accusing the match as being fixed/rigged…it was not. Some Americans need to stop acting like sore losers. And to clarify once again—it was not a rigged/fixed match!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to clarify, some of the accusations I’ve seen were on Twitter, from American users. Of course I know they do not represent the majority of Americans—but it’s so pathetic that when a team loses, the only thing somebody can say is ‘The match must’ve been fixed’ or something like that.
