Animals Predict Japanese Victory in 2011 Women’s World Cup

A lot of Japanese people are excited about their national team’s success in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup. No human being has the ability to predict the future…but perhaps octopuses and elephants can see the future?

Here are a some of the predictions provided by Germany’s “psychic” animals:

Four out of seven octopuses at a German aquarium picked Japan as the winner:

However, the octopus that has the best record for successful predictions was among the three who picked the United States.

In another area of Germany, a baby elephant has predicted a Japanese victory:

The elephant had successfully predicted the winner of every match involving the German national team. Although this result favors Japan, its previous predictions for the Japan vs. Sweden and USA vs. France matches were incorrect.

Wonder how many of those ‘remember pearl harbor’ type comments and idiot American “soccer patriots” will surface from the bottom of the scum pond, with those annoying USA USA chants and whatnot. You know, like not happened too long ago, and during the “wonderful” Japan bashing periods in American history (early 80′s and 90′s)>

Rein it in a bit. The more why cry ‘Wolf!’ where there is none, the easier it is for people to dismiss what you say when you’re actually correct. I’m sure there’s an educational story about that…

Sorry, badly phrased on my part. The japan-bashing Hamachiman assumes will follow on from *this article* is hypothetical, what with it not actually having happened yet. I may have got some tenses confused there. I hope you get my meaning. My point was that Hamachiman can sound like a bit of scratched record, which brings me nicely to your point.

Could you link to a bigger copy of that picture? Couldn’t actually read it, I’m afraid. People are saying those things wrt the women’s world cup final? I think then the thing to remember here is that some people are just arseholes. By all means call them on it when they are, but can’t we just enjoy a cutesy animal story for what it is?

Using Openbook.org, you can do a search for something like [pearl harbor japan] and find dozens of such posts. Pearl Harbor is most popular, but some people are also mentioning Hiroshima. (And that’s only searching the status updates of people who have not limited the privacy settings on their facebook accounts.)

Sometimes I think James posts these types of articles FOR Hamachiman. Hami is 100% predictable, so all James has to do is look for something he knows will get him riled up, post it, then just wait as the ‘interesting’ dialogue rolls in.

You would think they both would be a little tired of it by now.

lol. I’m not even sure how this post would fall under the “these types of articles” category. The soccer story is so big right now that it would kind of be hard to ignore it, so I made a couple posts about it. I didn’t expect any outrage from a story about some dumb psychic animals, but I guess it’s hard to avoid it – international sporting events like the Olympics or the World Cup are a recipe for nationalistic idiocy.

Hamachiman’s comment follows his usual pattern, but it was interesting. It prompted me to search on Openbook and make some unpleasant discoveries, which are worthy of a whole new post….(and it will be one of those types of posts)

“these type of articles” include anything that involves an issue that can be percieved as an issue of national pride. More often than not, that’s all it takes to chum up the water for the Hami to come swimming in. I’ll admit though, it takes so little to send him into his usual frenzy that it doesn’t leave much room for you.

I predict that when you post things that involve national pride, Hami will quite often show up and post his usual ‘woe is me, here come the Japan bashers, Japan is the underdog, quit picking on us’ type of crap he is so famous for. I bet my prediction is more reliable than those animal’s are.

He simply got lucky this time because you did all the work to prove him somewhat right, and even then only marginally so because you had to go to an outside source, with a very large population base, to do it. If your premise is ‘I can prove that people say stupid things’, and you go to a website with as many people posting as Facebook, it sure isn’t going to be very hard to find what you are looking for. Any website with a sufficiently large active user base is going to turn up all kinds of vile hateful speech on just about any topic you could possibly dream up.

Hami’s prediction that these comments will surface from the bottom of the scum pond only came to fruition because YOU swam down to the bottom of the scum pond and scraped them off to show it to the rest of us. Without your intervention, that scum would have stayed put on the bottom, largely unnoticed by anyone. And this kind of ties in to my original point. You both seem to thrive on this stuff. You seem to feed off of each other. You’ll post something to get him riled up, he’ll do what he always does, then you’ll take his asinine comments and try to link it to just enough reality that he feels justified in making the comment. Repeat ad nauseum.

So you post this kind of comment a lot? I mean surely this isn’t the only place where x group attacks y group right? There are so many minority group(s) or individual(s) who complain about being prosecuted…e.g. Jews, Blacks etc.

Do you say the same thing to those groups when ever something like this happens? Replace Japanese or Japs with Blacks, Niggers, Jews or any other group to what so many people on Facebook/Twitter are negatively saying right now because of the World Cup and would you still say/think the same thing?

Like If it was Nigeria vs the USA and the tweets were something to the effect of lets make them niggers a slave again or lets string them up and the amount of people who were saying this is comparable to the amounts that the Japanese are receiving. Would you tell the people who are complaining about that the same excuse/reasoning that you use now?

And for the point about you can find anything like this on Facebook/Twitter if you look hard enough show me where the Japanese have said something comparable like this is for Hiroshima/Nagasaki on similar platform.(like mixi….if you can read/type Japanese that is)

I’m not accusing you of anything I’m just asking questions to find out what your position is…nor am I defending Hamachiman.
