I can understand why some people would be put off nuclear power after what happened, but can wind be the answer? Big, ugly wind turbines needed in huge quantities to be as useful as one nuclear plant, can’t see it taking off.

Regardless of the aesthetics, they are incapable of providing base-load power (or even reliable, predictable power) and would be impractical as a replacement. I suspect that the real replacement will be an increase in fossil fuel burning.
