Although I don’t disagree with your sentiment, where exactly would one find a Japanese black belt capable of beating up Rampage. If you could turn the clock back 10 years maybe Sakuraba could try choking him out again, but I don’t see Japanese fighters beating him

Remember this is the same guy that ‘dry humped’ that Japanese reporter a while ago, so it’s not like we’re exactly dealing with the highest common denominator here.

That said, maybe he was just being his weird and crazy self but it is a bit uncomfortable to watch. I’m not sure what his Japanese fans will say or react in regards to this, we’ll see. I don’t think he was doing this out of outright disrespect or any inherently malicious intent, in his mind he probably thought he was being funny. But a bit too much if you ask me.

I agree with Carrie, I do find the homophobic slurs a bit disturbing in light of two recent incidents involving NBA players who were punished for using the exact same slur Rampage is using here.

I hadn’t heard of the reporter incident, had to look it up. Actually I think this is somewhat different than the reporter incident. A reporter who is approaching him as part of their job might expect having to deal with odd behavior. But I think it’s entirely different when someone is approaching you as a fan and then you disrespect them. It’s not like he even let them in on the joke or anything. So whether he is smart enough to realize how insulting he was is not relevant in my opinion. I believe the fan treatment is outright disrespect, he does not even respect them enough to consider that they will eventually find out what he did. The guy clearly had a translator present so if he wanted to have fun with his fans he could have easily explained to them that they had been part of a joke.

Also if you see the vid I posted earlier where he insults a random Japanese girl at her place of employment I think it’s very plain that he has little regard for other people, or at least Japanese people. To go out of your way to approach a complete stranger who doesn’t know you then insult them while they are trying to help you. I mean wow, that’s just amazing.

I agree, he is still a dick but I don’t think this was anything against his fan or the japanese. My Tanzinian friend did this kinda thing to me all the will when I would ask her to teach me swahili.

‘All (race) are like ___’ or ‘this is typical (race) behavior’ are ignorant generalizations and are just as racist and misguided as Rampage’s actions here. If you haven’t learned not to paint everyone with the same brush by now, your come-uppence is long overdue.
For the record, I’ve been in Japan 7 years and have never ever seen any foreign person do what Rampage has done in the video. Not that it doesn’t happen to anyone ever, but the rarity of it’s occurrence and of people dumb enough to act that way make your sweeping statements even more ludicrous.

hit and runs while eluding the police.
When they caught up to him, he said he was Jesus. All this happened because he lost to Forrest Griffin (a mediocre

MMA demands respectability and mainstream acknowledgment as a legitimate sport. I’m willing to extend that respect to them with its athletes and spokespeople can manage to behave in a fashion appropriate for the professional world. This vid is not an isolated incident: there are countlessly similar epithets being hurled around, unapologetically, by the likes of Joe Rogan et al. I realise that there are some class acts in the sport as well. But as long as the authorities and overseers of MMA in general chose to overlook these puerile antics, they they deserve some of the critiques that they’re promoting thuggish violence as entertainment. As noted below, the NBA wouldn’t put up with its athletes representing the sport in such a fashion.

Interesting that elsewhere the guy makes such a show of being a born-again christian, then turns around and does this.

Still, par for the course for Jackson. Back during a fight with Wanderlei Silva, Jackson made a big show of standing at attention while the US anthem was played (Silva stood politely), then whipped out a cell phone and started a conversation during the Brazilian anthem.

The man’s like a school in summertime.
