Fake Brand Bags at Tokyo Flea Market

Japan’s NTV news embeds itself with a group of police as they arrest a woman who was selling counterfeit brand products at a flea market in Tokyo:

The woman, a 59-year-old Chinese citizen, was very open about what she was doing. She admitted that the products were counterfeit and said she knew what she was doing was wrong. She said she wanted to make money.

Even if she had not confessed, the prices were so low that it was obvious that everything was fake. Copies of Louis Vuitton and Prada bags and keychains that were being sold at a tiny fraction of the retail price of legitimate products.

According to police, the woman had been selling counterfeit brand products at flea markets for over 13 years. It seems that nobody had been in a rush to report and shut down her obviously illegal business.

is BS. If it’s illegal to sell knock off it should be illegal to sell
that 300dollars key chain as well. These brand companies are ripping
people off in the first place and people are stupid enough to buy them.
If people are buying cheap knockoffs it means that the REAL BRAND it
self has not much of a value than hype because it was easily imitated by
knock off. It’s BIG CON vs small con. That is it!!! WAKE UP!!!

Brands and logos are created by specific people and those people deserve to make money without other people stealing their designs and copying them. If I made and licensed a design for a shirt people wanted to pay 300,00 yen for, I’d want the police to crack down on theives making money off my idea, too. I’m glad they caught her.

Fake or real – they’re both made in China.

Often in the same place. A lot of knockoffs are made in the same exact location. Most factories get a certain quota ordered of the brand-name. Once the quote is met they just continue working on the ‘knockoffs’. Maybe a bit different with the seamster factories but for a large part of what is made in China, this holds true.

Unless they openly lie about it, LV products are made in France and Prada products are made in Italy. Not that fraud would be particularly surprising with the prices they charge, but…

Under EU law a product only needs to be 10% assembled in the EU to be labeled “made in the EU”.

Canvas parts of LV products are made in china and the leather bits are sewn on in France.

Oh, I didn’t know that. High fashion products are a bit out of my price range, but I thought they had at least some level of quality because of it, even though the price comes mostly from the name.

In America the police cannot ask her if she is an illegal alien or do anything even if they know she is.

No real surprise here, fake goods are sold in every country. If you offer a product at a premium there are always going to be those who want a cheaper alternative
