Adidas Suspected of Price Fixing in Japan

Japan’s Fair Trade Commission has raided the Tokyo offices of Adidas to investigate claims of price-fixing:

Adidas Japan was suspected of pressuring retailers to sell the product for 10,000 to 15,000 yen ($118-177), and of suspending shipments for stores that did not comply.

So, you can’t do this on shoes etc. But it’s OK to do it on Camera’s etc?
Because lots of electronics have a Fixed price.
So why should that not be the case in shoes?

But is it MSRP? If the price is exactly the same in all the shops you visit, I think it’s more then just a suggestion. Then again, how to prove it.

I was under the impression lots of things were priced fixed… the price of CDs for example. Every store sells them at basically the same price which hasn’t changed in forever… in Australia competition is fierce, media prices are constantly dropping for new releases. Meanwhile Japan sits on good ol’ 1200yen for a single and 3000yen for an album…

Everything in Japan appears to be very obviously price-fixed. I’m surprised to find out that it’s even illegal.

That’s not the issue. The issue is a company forcing a retailer to either sell its products at company-dictated prices or lose business.
