Church of Scientology Sending Volunteer Ministers to “Help” Japanese Earthquake Victims

The Church of Scientology has sent volunteer ministers to the areas of Japan devastated by the March 11th earthquake and Tsunami. Photos of them in action can be see in several posts at an official Scientology blog.

If you’re unfamiliar with the activities of the volunteer ministers, here is a video that shows how the organization uses such disaster “relief” missions as an opportunity to convert weak and vulnerable people into Scientology followers:

Experts fear that a lot of of the survivors of the earthquake and survivor, especially small children, have undergone great mental trauma and stress. These people need help from legitimate mental health professionals, not from the Church of Scientology.

yes. They came with no food and just money and no walking shoes wearing things like high heels. They thought they could just walk into a store and buy food and hand it out but there were no stores. What’s more they gave food to people who were going into surgery and were not supposed to eat. They even did holistic healing. The Haitians were specifically asking for non Scientology doctors when they came for help because they were that notoriously bad.

The problem with them is that nothing is ever given away. You want water? Just come inside and fill out our ‘personality assessment form’. Blankets? Those are available with our ‘special personal improvement program’. They did the same things after Katrina and 9/11.

Their Tokyo office is in Otsuka if anyone wants to go voice their displeasure to them in person.

I used to get hassled all the time to join various peoples churches and don’t even get me started about the idiots with the megaphones and placards at Christmas… o.k. not after a disaster (which definitely ups the creepy) but still you recruit as hard as anyone

This is nothing new, but the Scientology Volunteer Minister program really got pushed after Sept. 11.

Their behavior at Ground Zero was repulsive. They bragged about disrupting legitimate mental health counselors and ignored barricades meant to keep out the public.

These people come unprepared, assuming they can stay somewhere and eat somebody’s supplies. In Haiti, they brought nothing but money, assuming they could buy everything they needed at the corner market. Except there were no corner markets.

They should be banned from invading traumatized communities to spread the word of Ron. They blunder around, pose for pictures, eat food nobody else seems to have access to, and perform idiotic magic touch assists which they claim can have miraculous results. They are vultures.

The sad thing is, they actually think they’re being useful.

And how is this different from Christian “relief” flooding Japan atm? Can anyone say Red Cross? You are pointing out this taking advantage of people in a vulnerable state as if it is something unique to scientology when in fact, this is how ALL the major religions expand their ranks.

I find this article and the commentators creepy. They talk as if they know something about the volunteer ministers’ work and yet they know nothing. I would also assume they have never volunteered for any disaster relief work either. The truth is that when the VMs go out for this kind of activity there is no dissemination or recruiting going on. They are there for the purpose of disaster response and that is all. They employ methods of orienting a person to the present and alleviating stress with the nerve assists. They work alongside all kinds of professionals in these situations and they demonstrate skill and courage. It isn’t easy work when you go to disaster areas to help and the VMs turn their hand to any work that is needed. In the Indian Ocean tsunami for example, one of the tasks was handling dead bodies, looking for ID and categorizing these.

The anti-Scientology lobby is hard at work adding comments to virtually every article on the subject in attempt to stir up hate towards the religion and its members. They seem to favor conventional forms of Western mental treatment even when there is no evidence of it ever working. VMs often end up teaching trauma counselors their methods because they are effective and are based upon simple principles, not complexities such as psycho analysis.

If you want to find out what the Scientology Volunteer Ministers do go to http://www.volunteerministers.org or call in at a local Scientology church and talk to the people there and find out for yourself what Scientology and Scientologists are like. I think you might find they are very sincere and good people.

Only those people with real medical skills and trained relief personnel should be allowed anywhere near the disaster zone. This is typical of a cult movement to move in on the vulnerable. No thanks.

False promises and “touch” healing – peddle them elsewhere. Scientology is another fad and a cult – I would not include it with other mainstream religions.
