Police Arrest Man Who Punched Ichikawa Ebizo

The man accused of attacking Kabuki star Ichikawa Ebizo has been arrested:

The Metropolitan Police Department said the man, identified as Rion Ito, a resident of Tokyo, owned up to the assault. He was quoted as saying: “It’s true that I punched him. I’ll provide details after I’ve cleared my mind.”

As you may remember from a previous post, some Japanese tabloids printed accounts of the incident that said the man looked like Bob Sapp. Here’s a side by side comparison:

I’m sure Ebizo made up the Bob Sapp thing to make himself seem like less of a pussy–he wanted people to think he got beat up by a large, well-muscled professional fighter, not a short chubby guy.

I think he’s not even black, I am pretty sure he is south east asian guy, his name is common in Filipino.

How can you tell? I’ve see a lot of Fillippinos and none look that dark or have African like features? On the other hand, though I’ve seen plenty that are of the African/Japanese descent that look just like that. But I don’t think this guy looks like Sapp.

I have to feel sorry for Ito. He gets into a minor bar scuffle that was probably as much Ebizo’s fault as Ito’s, and he ends up getting arrested just because the other guy is famous enough that the press won’t stop harping on it.

Now that the pic is out this shows everyone just how anxious Japanese media is to tag anything possible on a foreigner. Ridiculous. And this is with foreigners comprising ONE PERCENT of the population,jeez! Just wait until they’re are forced to open immigration as the country gets old, these kinds of outrageous stories will only become more common.

Uhh…a couple tabloids aren’t representative of the Japanese media as a whole. The big name media outlets didn’t run with the Bob Sapp thing.

I voted yes, not because he looks like Bob Sapp, but because they both look like complete morons. I can’t stand Sapp on any level.

The only thing I hate worse than Sapp, is this damn story about Ebizo. Lock them both up and throw the key away. Who will miss either one of them?
