Well, it could be called pole acrobatics also. All fields of acrobacy use quite a limited range of movements in the end, but you also have to take choreography, timing, fluency of movements, music and dress etc. into consideration when judging a performance.

If you were referring to pole dancing as simply stripping, remember that stripping can be easily combined with just about anything (like doing any housework chores) so comdemming pole dance itself on the basis of its common association with strip-tease is very narrow-minded, I think.

There’s professionally taught lessons for this in Singapore. You’d be surprised how many middle aged married women sign up for it with the aim of adding some spice back into their lives.
