Box of Apples Sold For 1 Million Yen

On the 13th, a box of 28 Esashi Apples was sold at auction in Iwate Prefecture for 1 million yen (12,130 USD):

That’s over 400 dollars per apple. Of course, these types of apples are not normally sold for such an outrageous price. It was the first auction of the season for these apples, and the winner paid for the prestige of being able to claim ownership of the very first box sold.

My only question is what do they do with the apples? Eat them? Look at them? Sell them for 500 dollars each? Either way, I will be laughing my assh off.

To anyone taking these stories at face value, you miss the point. It’s not just expensive fruit. The point is the publicity it gets the buyer – national TV coverage and stories on countless blogs for a million yen? Priceless.

Good appeal for apple. The deflation has occurred in Japan now. People’s buying intentions are lost, and the price of various things has fallen. But, Still consumption remains being sluggish. I hope for consumption to be widely well known of this news and to be stimulated.
