Chiba Man Stole Over 2,000 Articles of Women’s Underwear

Police in city of Matsudo in Chiba prefecture carefully laid out over 2,000 articles of underwear and footwear seized from the apartment of a man who was caught in the act of stealing panties:

The man confessed that he has stolen the clothing from both laundry lines and stores. Apparently he liked to wear it.

I can understand the need to count the total number of articles stolen in order to prosecute the guy, but why do they always have to lay them out like this for a photo shoot?

Not really helping the “Japan is full of perverts” stereotype is it?

That’s not really impressive because it tells us that they’re also the ones with the experience in this kind of stuff although they never get caught because they’re the police ))

Anyways, I never quite understood the underwear thefts nor the ammount of erotism seem to place in them in Japan’s culture.

I love how the cops have seemingly sorted them by color, and perhaps even size? Moreover the fact there all spread out for a photo op, talk about airing your dirty laundry.
