Tokyo Governor Denounces China’s Yakuza-like Diplomacy

Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara has never been a fan of the Chinese government, so he is obviously not pleased about Japan’s decision to cave in and release the trawler captain who rammed two Japanese coast guard ships:

In the above clip, Ishihara calls on the Japanese media to get the video tape of the boat collision so it can report the truth about the incident. He also states that China behaved “like Yakuza.”

There are also a couple comments from random people on the street. One man says the Japanese government was too weak, while another says it couldn’t be helped because the Chinese had detained Japanese citizens.

It’s funny because this is how Japan got control over this island in the first place, When we still had power. This day was bound to happen when China became strong n takes back what was rightfully theirs.

We have a similar problem with the Kunashir island, which is now Russia’s. And when we have the oppurtunity to take it back don’t you think we would do the same?

All this is happening is because of Karma, what goes around comes around…

And just like the Yakuza, China will get away with their behaviour, because the Japanese Government doesn’t have the backbone to stand up to either one of them.

Taking back territories by use of force should have ended by the end of the 2nd World War with the formation of the UN and thus far the borders of the world have not changed … much … now as to whether it was the work of the UN or reluctance by nations to overstep other nations’ sovereignty that is up for debate but for China to buck this trend now during its ascent to power is a very worrisome sign.

That said … as the article did point out … did the Chinese trawler did intentionally ram the coast guard vessels? no one knows yet do we …

What he says is basically true, but I can’t help feeling this is more like Japanese Yakuza bitching how outlaw Chinese Triads are.

Dude, it’s not the worthless rocks that are important, it’s the water around them, or more specifically, the rights to fish and drill for oil around those rocks. I hope you already know this and are just making a joke?

For a country with basically no natural resources, you’d think the Japanese goernment would be a bit more willing to stand up for itself regarding these ocean claims.

Show me the studies that prove how valuable that sea is, and how huge of a contribution it will make to the Japanese GDP.

I hear the same excuses about the Liancourt Rocks. The truth is, the rocks are worthless, and this is all about ego.

I strongly disagree with Ishihara. The Yakuza may be criminals too, but unlike the Chinese, they live by a system of rules and honor.
