Japanese Police Shut Down Chinese Brothel Near Yokosuka Base

Japanese police have raided a Chinese massage parlor in Yokosuka and arrested 24 people:

The parlor, which was located near an American naval base, had actually been a brothel offering illegal sex services to members of the American military. It managers and the women who worked there were Chinese.

The Yomiuri Shimbun has reported the raid as part of Japan’s preparations for the APEC summit that will be held in Yokohama in November. I’m not really sure how the arrests of prostitutes in Yokosuka changes the security situation in Yokohama, but I guess the police want to show off some statistics that demonstrate how they have cut down on “international” crime.

It’s not a security thing, but an image thing. The international community usually chastises Japan for it’s seedy undertones. While they have made prostitution illegal (begrudgingly a little over a decade ago…), everyone who has been to Japan knows that it is not strictly enforced. Enjo Kosai is still an issue as well even though it has been “cleaned up.”

When there are international conferences, you can make sure they “clean up” prostitution rings in preparation. They’ll be back right after. It’s like China telling people to stop selling unlicensed goods on the streets during international events.

Article 3. No person may prostitute oneself or be the counterparty of prostitution.

Prostitution is legal, running a brothel/prostitution ring is not.

As long the hooker is an independent contractor, there is no legal issue.

the soldiers are only human and it’s cruel to deny them of their natural urges.

do you know why 17 and 18-yrs-old kids are the favorite target for US military recruiters?
people who are only 17 or 18 are more likely to think they’ll survive combat situations…

All they have to do is to ask or order the officials or locals to set up the brothels for GIs.

During WW2, Japanese military did not set up brothels but licensed third party brothels in its occupied areas to prevent spreading of diseases.

The careful use of the word Seiteki, implies that this facility’s services were completely legal, just not appropriately licensed. Totally not newsworthy. The news failing to blur the faces of the people involved (mere suspects) at this point is pretty ridiculous. They pretty much always forget the pixelizing for foreigners accused of blue law violations. I’m not one of the people that often chucks the R word at Japan, but this stinks of a certain brand of racial discrimination.

My admittedly unsourced understanding of the broader situation is that certain parties with their own investments in the sex industry and strong ties to the police department probably ratted them out. The Yakuza have no problem with Chinese brothels, so long as they are getting a large enough cut of the action.

So why do people need to freak out about “gaikokujin arrested” kind of news?
The arrested criminals are your friends?
Or are you criminal and you feel sympathy for them?
Are they arrested just because being foreigner?
No, they are arrested because they are god damn dirty criminals that should be discovered and arrested.
It may become more easy for you to understand by saying like this, “they are dirty war criminals that should be nuked twice and killed.”

You may want to say, “What do you feel if Japanese (Asian) criminal was arrested in America and whole bunch of media broadcasting it?” Then my anger goes to the idiot who brought trouble on foreign peoples and brought bad image to the whole country. Maybe many hatred comment comes up, but I can’t say nothing because criminal is Japanese. Though it’s not me who did it, but still he/she is Japanese. How can I blame American people, they are victims and just broadcasting crime scenes.

The police want to show off their power? That’s a good thing if it is true. I hope criminals are scared and stop doing stupid things. But maybe it’s not a good thing for criminals and those who support them. Thank god we little dirty whale eaters can’t arrest foreign criminals and broadcast it to our own country’s people, haha… Sorry for not being a faithful slave of the great foreigner. Sorry for not letting foreigners commit crimes freely.
