For Japanese Men Who Don’t Like Being Hairy

A Japanese commercial for a body/facial hair removal product for men:

The product is promoted by a trio of dancing white guys, all of whom have hair-free faces and chests. Those that choose not to use this product are doomed to end up looking like hairy gorillas! [It brags about having lots of worldwide sales, but in other countries it has mostly been marketed towards women.]

Somewhere out there, the spirits of Japan’s bad-ass bearded samurai are shedding a tear for the future of Japanese manhood….

I’m sure it’ll have more commercial success in Japan.

The removal of body hair is pretty much confined to the Gay / Bodybuilding scenes in the West. In Japan, men take care of their appearance to an unhealthy level.

Women in Europe used to shave their pubic hair before putting on a chastity belt.
They also shaved the pubic hair to repel crab lice since they didn’t bathe at all until the end of the 19th century.

The pubic hair lets air circulate around the scrotch. I think it may be more beneficial healthwise to not shave today. However that said, I think shaved have more sex-appeal but I wouldn’t care wether or not someone shaves for the purpose of a relationship.

Women shave their pubic hairs for the same reason why they shave their legs, or remove hair from under their arms. To look nice.

It seems somewhat “womanly” for a man to do the same thing with body hair.

Only if your female, if your male trimming and maintaining it. It’s a western thing since in the east, women don’t really shave it off which I am put off. But that’s because of cultural differnces.

I’m fine with leg hair but I personally can’t stand chest/arm hair on men. Not saying that hairy men are gross, as there are some girls that like that. But you insecure guys remarking about how feminine Asian men are should know Asians are on the other side of the fence laughing about how “monkey-like” hairy bodies are. Different cultures, different tastes, 十人十色, etc.

What is wrong with looking manly with a big beard or chest hair? I don’t get fashion nowadays, and I’m only in my early twenties. Not that I’m trying to offend anyone, I just don’t see the “uncool” in having a beard.

My bf, a 6’1 Japanese guy with a goatee and a bit of facial hair hates how body hair on men is shunned in Japan. Lol he actually looks like the hairy guy in the top left corner of the picture collage. I have noticed that men are increasingly becoming feminized in Japanese culture. A lot of Japanese women think that men with shoulder length hair or maybe a bit of facial hair is seen as Kimochi warui. To each is his own but I swear sometimes I am increasingly mistaking the men here for women.
