Shibuya Nightlife: Drunks & Delinquents

A news program visits the area around Shibuya station late at night to observe drunks and delinquents:

There seem to be a lot of teenagers loitering about. There is a city ordinance that places an 11:00PM curfew on people under the age of 18, but police aren’t doing much to enforce it.

It looks like naughty teenagers doing what naughty teenagers do. At least they had the sense to put the girl who had collapsed in the recovery position, to prevent her choking on her own vomit.

I don’t see how the police can be expected to enforce an age based law when there is no national ID card system to let them check on people’s ages.

If I go to Tokyo, I think it’d be quite enjoyable to just sit in the apex of the activity and observe what goes on to make Shibuya such a magnet for young people. That and absorb the nightlife.

Shibuya is the toughest at around 4:00~5:00 am though, when the drunks just lay and sit around. haha

I just got home from Shibuya a few hours ago.
I was hanging around and enjoying the nightlife, actually (my favorite spot in Tokyo for such. Shibuya just has this almost carnival-like feeling to it at night.) I’ve never stayed past 11, so even though I’m 17 I’ve never ran into problems.

Shibuya feels to me, more than any district in any major city in the world, an area created by the young for the young. And as such you have people who are a bit immature and go a bit crazy. It happens. Honestly, there’s more aggravating people in Shibuya than drunks which I wish would be fixed, though I won’t go into details.

My only other minor complaint is that I feel like Shibuya is getting (comparatively) more and more full of garbage. I’ve begun to pick up garbage (if I don’t look conspicuous. And mostly just empty bottles) put it in my bag and throw it out when I get home just because I love Shibuya and I don’t want to see it get trashy :/
