Japanese Toilet Paper vs. Chinese Toilet Paper

An NTV program explains the difference between Japanese toilet paper and Chinese toilet paper:

As you can see, the Japanese toilet paper dissolves rather quickly when stirred in water, making it far less likely to clog a any pipes when flushed. This Japanese Standards Association (JSA) has established standards for manufacture requiring that toilet paper dissolve within at least 100 seconds of being placed into toilet water.

Doesn’t this constant criticism and belittling of China ever get old? I mean, yeah China’s definitely a pretty f’d up place, but are the Japanese so insecure that they need to constantly compare themselves to it to make themselves feel better?

well, when I went to Japan the toilet paper (and the bathroom in general with their high-tech stuff) surely was a source of awe

here in my country there is no such thing as biodegradable toilet paper, so the paper we use to clean up our asses becomes a huge sanitarian issue

Never tried the Chinese paper but Japanese toilet paper is kind of shitty in my opinion.

That’s why in Japan I always have pieces of paper on my pussy after visiting the toilet. In China I don’t. Maybe the electronic toilets should get a dryer installed.

Factoid: You aren’t supposed to flush used paper down the toilet in China. (theres a bucket to dispose of it)

That’s exactly what I was thinking.

Same goes for Taiwan. Until VERY recently, their utilities and facilities weren’t capable of handling flushed toilet paper. Used toilet paper is supposed to go in a trash bin next to the toilet. Because of this, toilet paper quality in Taiwan has become very high; it feels almost like Kleenex. Because you don’t flush the toilet paper, there’s no reason for the manufacturers to make toilet paper with any regard to how well it dissolves in water, thus creating a market where the feel and absorption of the toilet paper outweighs any regard to its dissolve-ability.

It’s not because of inadequacy that the toilet paper doesn’t dissolve.

” … dissolve within at least 100 seconds of being placed into toilet water” does not make sense. Surely it should be “most” not “least” otherwise it could be allowed to dissolve weeks after it goes down the pan.
