A video from ATV shows the MSDF detonating what is believed to have been a WW2-era mine:

The laying of naval mines was a major part of the American bombing campaign against Japan. Wikipedia records three raids in which B-29′s dropped mines into the waters around Kobe.

Was the mine actually FLOATING? Or had it fallen to the bottom of the bay? I don’t see how it could last as long as it did if it was actually still floating.

Another report says it was found at the bottom which was 15 meters in depth.
