Korea Times Prints False and Ridiculous News Story

The Korea Times is running a laughably fake story claiming that Japanese adult film actress Anri Suzuki is offering free sex to Chinese men to apologize for Japan’s past invasion of China:

I’m not sure what’s more ridiculous, the claim about her offer to Chinese men, or the claim that a 24-year-old AV idol has a doctorate in history. The “unlike other graduates” claim about her history studies is also pretty funny, but I suppose that’s what one should expect in a news article from a country that consistently ignores the level of historical scholarship that exists in Japan.

Anyway, here’s what Redditer leoboiko wrote about the story:

According to ja.wikipedia (if I’m understanding it correctly), she said on her blog and twitter account that she has no education above high school and never offered sex to atone for the Japanese sins. Apparently the rumour was started by the Wen Wei Po newspaper from Hong Kong for unknown reasons. I got suspicious when I noticed no news source was reporting exactly in what “prestigious university” did she graduate.

Wow, that’s pretty rude. Sure, it’s probably highly unlikely an AV star would be highly educated, but to call the concept ridiculous is kind of insulting, isn’t it? While I don’t hold Japan Probe to the same standards as say the BBC, some journalistic tact wouldn’t go astray…

Here, let me highlight it for you:

In Japan, it is incredibly rare for someone to skip grades, far more rare than it is in countries such as the United States. Almost all Japanese who attend university are 22 years old when they graduate. A Master’s degree takes another 2 years. A doctorate takes at least 3 years (but even that can be hard). A lot of the prestigious schools (Todai, Waseda, etc.) even require that applicants be of a certain age before entering graduate programs (18 for ungrad, 22 for M.A., 24 for Phd). So when somebody in Japan has a Phd, it is almost 100% certain that they are going to be over 27-years-old. If, by some very rare chance, there was a 24-year-old who held a Phd in history and was a porn star, it would be pretty damn ridiculous.

Something like this happened a couple weeks back. A Chinese newspaper claimed that a professor from Seoul National University claimed that a famous Chinese poet was actually a Korean. This angered alot of Koreans cause the name the Chinese newspaper provided was fake. Funny part is, Japan picked this news up, and reported it without doing research. So no ones “innocent”.

No I’m not saying it’s ok, I’m simply pointing out the fact that what Korea did was wrong, but this type of thing has happened before by other east Asian countries.

Korea times should apologize, but I hope people will just laugh at/criticize Korea Times instead of bashing the whole nation and the Korean people.

Korea Times just took the story from an original Chinese news source. So why is Japan Probe fingering Korea? He really should be pointing at China.

Because Korea is an easy target for nationalist Japanese and Japanophiles to poke fun at. Korean media loves sensational and gossip filled news stories. Journalistic integrity is hard to find yet yellow journalism is rampant. Koreans don’t even trust their own media so labelling a whole country as being ignorant is a bit ridiculous. Plus, Japanese media isn’t any better when it comes to Korea bashing.

Which Japanese media picked it up? Was it by quality newspaper like Korea Times, or by TV?
I wouldn’t be surprised if some anti-Korea blog (or 2ch) picked the news up, but in that case, I’d think there are differences between these two cases.

You guys realize that this “news” was first published in CHinese papers, right? If you’re gonna blame koreatimes, at least mention the actual source.

likewise, some chinese newspaper published a story 3 weeks ago about a fictitious korean scholar claiming Li Bai as korean. Guess what, a japanese newspaper published that same story without doing any research.

Well… the news is ridiculous, but if she does it for free or for money in a movie or out of a movie she is a prostitute already, so I don’t think that this news was something bad to her, what she does is already a shame… pitty a pretty girl like this being used like a sex toy… that’s sad…

Maybe Korea Times was getting one back for all those Japanese media articles, reporting as if they’re true, Chinese fake news about Koreans claiming Chinese history and figures? And how do we know it’s really fake? I think she probably was forced to retract her statements after the Japanese public went nuts and threw nasty insults at her.

Well, that is to be expected…notice I didn’t say REpected. Between Japan, Korea and China there has always been a feud. I’d go into detail, but it’ll take too long. They can’t get it through their Kim Jong Il licking heads that they’re not going to get their compensation from Japan for something that happened over 60 years ago(korea) or an apology from the 37year occupation(Nanking China). They need to stop being over zealous about the past and unit for the future.

Korea times, the most fictional newspaper from Korea, is devoting to bring Japan down. The same comedy fictions always updated from China and Korea. Both country should stop being too emotional against Japan about their past and future. I can even believe both countries are ones from a fiction such as the World of Warcraft.

The stories are yellow journalism AT BEST and outright racism at worst.

Of course, being that they’re Korean, they’re not likely to ever receive any government instruction to tone down their hate-mongering
