A Visit to the Yasukuni Shrine

The guy who runs JapanVistor.com recently visited the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo and produced a nice quality tour video about the sights and sounds one can experience on a visit to the shrine.

Oh no, Yasukuni again.

Interesting decision of the planning commission to approve a cheap metal and glass box annex abutting the original stone building. Frank Gehry himself could not have created a more pointless and confusing aesthetic mess.

I think he did a good job of capturing the weirdness of Yasukuni.
Basically, it’s a shrine to nationalism which makes transparently false claims to being a shrine to peace; there is this jarring juxtaposition of doves and machines of war.

There are other Torii in Japan that are as big if not larger, such as the ones in Kyoto

Hehe, did anyone catch the guy’s Hitleresque moustache and hand gesture’s from about 5:15-5:20 in the 2nd video. Hehehe.
