A clip from “Unchiku-kun Shirisugi” introduces a Tokyo University student who came to Japan from Russia with dark hair, but then transformed herself into a gaudy blonde gyaru after she was exposed to Shibuya street fashion:
Because gyaru clothing is designed for thin women, she also lost 15 kilograms (33 pounds). A huge chunk of the income she earns from a part time job is spend on new clothing.

I wouldn’t be so dismissive of her based on her looks. She came to Japan 2 years ago (at age 19). She had graduated from some kind of elite school in St. Petersberg. She was able to transfer into Tokyo University, to the Komaba campus. She wants to be an international lawyer.
Also, she’s from Russia and she’s going to university overseas. She’s probably from a wealthy family.

Her features seem very Japanese to me, difficult to detect her Russian features.
Unfortunately she will have to adopt a different dress when she applies for work in her vocation. Being in a foreign country is not always easy but she seems to have immersed herself fully into the popular culture which should help in making friends.

It depends how tall she is compared to her weight.
There are medical height/weight distribution curves derived from empirical study of large populations. If you fall too far on one side of them you are emaciated and probably amenorrhoeic — it would be hard to call that anything but anorexia when the situation is like this one — voluntary weight loss without major exercise.
However it is only speculation.

I personally liked her old look better but it’s kinda cool to see a gyaru chick so to Tokyo U! She’s having her fashion fun while she still can, so I can’t blame her for choosing one of the more extreme styles. Her bf isn’t half bad either, imho. Good on her, I say!

I agree it’s sorta ironic she’s like a white person who looks like a Japanese person who looks like a white person. But I’m pretty inspired… I’m an American going to Todai this fall and I really like gyaru fashion. Maybe we can make our own little gaijin gyaru clique hehe.
