Asking for More Fries at McDonald’s

Dude got way to much time on his hands!

dude just proved that McDonald’s still need to improve.

You know, you really don’t need a scale to see if you are being gypped on the fries. A couple of shakes of the fries and if they settle below the lip, well, you got gypped

This proves there are indeed customers from hell. McD’s was just trying to do the guy a favor by giving him a few grams less saturated fat, and what does he do? Complain!

I don’t know why you’d complain. Of all the food at McDonalds, the Fries are among the most processed and most unhealthy. They are pure carbs, grease, and salt.

I remember going to this bar in Osaka and paying 700yen for a tequila on the rocks, only to find that this baseball sized ball of ice took up all the space in the glass leaving me with like a half shot of tequila. I felt ripped and proceeded to leave shortly there-after.

I do think it is ridiculous that this guy weighed his fries, and personally I’d be happy to be shorted on one of the most fattening foods you can consume but I’m glad that there are people out there that don’t stand for being ripped off.

1) This guy starts his video by weighing the carton of french fries (FF) AFTER he leaves the counter and is already sitting at the table. Notice the video fade edit at 0:19-0:20 as the carton of FF moves from the tray to the scale. How do we (or the manager) know he did not remove FF from the carton before weighing it the first time?

2) At the end he shows that the new carton weighs 133grams, almost 135 he says. But look closely, there are 4 or 5 visible stray FF left on his tray (perhaps more that are not visible). He should have placed those into the carton prior to his final weighing. Then it would have probably been 135grams.

Just these observations put into question the validity of the guy’s claims in the video.

The worker/manager at the counter actually picks up the stray out-of-carton FF and places them back into the carton. I hope that they gave the guy a whole new carton of FF. The counter workers handle money and credit cards and are not supposed to touch the food itself, only the outer wrapping or container.

In Okinawa, my one friend worked at McD for awhile and the employees were told to make sure and put enough FF in the cartons, especially for Americans who some tended to be very vocal and complaining about any little problem. The managers made it a point to teach the employees how to pack the cartons with a little extra, especially for those ordering the Large size, and most especially for the super-sized Marines who would order two Value Sets or extra burgers and a second order of FF for one person!

They were taught about some other American requests / complaints such as too much ice in drinks. Also, they were to ask if the American customer wanted a second, or third ketchup pack. At the military on-base eateries, they have packs of ketchup and mustard (along with sugar, creamer, salt and pepper) in bins placed in the eating area, like most fast-food place in USA, so customers can take all they want. There are also free, unlimited refills of carbonated/soda drinks.

The new policy at McD (at least here in Okinawa) is that you have to ask for ketchup packs, especially at drive thru windows. The signs were posted a few months ago (even in English at the stores I was at).

Perhaps there were too many unused ketchup containers being thrown out and McD wanted to be more ‘eco/green’. Some people place their unused napkins, ketchup and coffee creamer/sugar alongside the place for empty trays on top of the garbage bins thinking those items will be re-used. However, my McD friend said they were instructed to throw them all out due to concerns for safety and health.

Trivia: The first McDonalds in Okinawa opened in 1976 in Makiminato district of Urasoe City along Route 58 as the first franchise McDonald’s in Japan (an independently owned one in Ginza, Tokyo had opened five years earlier). It was the first McDonalds in Japan to have a Drive-Thru window and had the largest McDonalds sign in Japan, and had some of the highest store sales for awhile. A few years ago, that original store was torn down and the McDonalds was ‘moved’ into the first floor of a large Pachinko Parlor (separate section of the first floor) built on that property.

There are currently 42 McDonalds in Okinawa Prefecture, all on the main island, with more than half of them located less than 1 kilometer from a U.S. military base/facility. There are no McDonalds on Okinawa bases, but there are Burger King stores.

I am not sure about McDonalds in Japan (mainland?), but most of them in Okinawa take U.S. dollars (paper only, no coins) and give back change in yen based on a daily currency rate conversion.

It’s a fact that if you pay for 135g, you gotta have 135g or at least something close, less is a fake commercial !

But anyway, I still can’t see why people go to Mcdonald’s or KFC, and especially in Japan, where there are thousands and thousands of local food and restaurant everywhere in the streets…
