McDonald’s California Burger

For the past week, McDonald’s Japan has been selling special California Burgers:

I think the spicy cheese and sauce made from California red wine supposedly give it a California taste.

It will be sold until the 25th, after which point the Texas Burger will be returning for another run.

1 8-ounce can stewed tomatoes
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
1 cup beef bouillon bouillon
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon seasoned salt seasoned salt
1/4 cup dry red California wine

I live in California, and I’ve never seen a McDonalds burger near that size. Even our ads don’t depict them that big. Whatever, MikkyD’s sucks anyways.

yeah japan’s mcdonald’s marketing thing got it completely wrong. avocado on anything = california anything. either that or a jalapeno, pepper jack cheese and avocado

Man, I love that “To be continued…?” at the end. It really adds another dimension of suspense and mystery to it.

Unlike most posters, I have actually eaten this, and it’s ok for a Mickey D’s product, which means it’s (just) edible. The Texas Burger was the best of the lot. And you won’t find avocados on true California burgers- rather a bonafide example would be an In-N-Out Double Double or a Tommy’s Burger (slathered with chili, no beans).

The California burger was by FAR the worst burger, in my opinion.

California < Texas < New York < Hawaii, for sure.

Didn’t care too much for the egg in the Hawaii burger so I’d move it to the bottom, but otherwise that order seems pretty reasonable.

In the Midwestern US a “California Burger” is specifically a hamburger with lettuce and tomato in it. I’m from California and had never heard of a California Burger: but if you order a hamburger from a restaurant out here, you typically get the hamburger sandwich with a side of tomato slices and lettuce. Since McDonald’s is headquartered in Chicago, I guess it would be logical for them to call a lettuce-and-tomato burger a California burger. (But why that would make any difference to Japanese consumers is a marketing mystery….)

I live in California, and the representation of sunny skies, McDonald’s car-house things on wheels, and everyone roller skating with smiles set to Kenny Loggins music IS NOT VERY ACCURATE.

My sunny-sky McDonald’s roller skate gang doesn’t like Kenny Loggins. We prefer the Beach Boys.
