Snow monkeys terrorize Shibu Onsen

Shibu Onsen, the town in Nagano that is world famous for its snow monkeys that bathe in natural hot springs, has a bit of a problem:
It would seem that some of the monkeys have grown so used to humans that they no longer fear running into houses and stores to steal food. In some cases, they make off with boxes of souvenir snacks, which they supposedly bash open later and eat.
Residents of the town are frustrated by the thieving monkeys, but most shrug off their acts. After all, those same monkeys are responsible for drawing large numbers of foreign tourists to the town.

Who?
The monkeys already brought tourists to help the towns economy, the least they can take for their effort for entertaining the tourists is food.
Right, or not?
lol

Really when you wrote terror, have you asked yourself who feeds these animals.
I see the entire town profiting from tourism generated BY THESE ANIMALS ALONE, and when the animals are hungry and take the food ( bears do that and more in US and Canada since forever ), it is pretty obvious they are hungry and not fed, or do not have anything to eat.
And then the funny storekeepers shoot them with air guns.
So the tourist profits they like, dozen of bananas they can’t spare, real nice, what is there left to be said.

My friend’s parents are farmers in Fukushima and they have the same problem. Apparently the monkeys are getting cleverer, they don’t eat the crops on the spot but drag them off into the forest thus destroying an entire harvest for their victims.

We were harrassed by similar monkeys in Nikko. It was actually really scary. They are fast and vicious little f*ckers.
