Shinjuku Cheerleader

Has anyone seen this woman dancing around outside Shinjuku station in Tokyo?

Her name is Aya Sato and she is 33-years-old. She says she once tried to work like a salaryman, but had to quit her job. Now she apparently spends most mornings dancing on the street cheering on salarymen as they walk to work.

Nothing shows Japan’s poor utilization of human resources as well as this story.

But there are economic uses for such people. You know… every team needs their cheerleaders. It’s pretty darn sad that this one was told to just shut the F up until she quit.

And now, while it’s encouraging that she’s turning heads, my impression is that she’s about as valued as the homeless picking up empty bottles. This is a good example of society failing someone.
