Fire Hose + Toilet = Super Washlet

A special episode of “Toribia no Izumi” aired on Japanese TV saturday night, performing several awesomely weird experiments.
A viewer submitted a letter wanting to know how much blasting power a toilet washlet spray would have if replaced by a fire hose. Thanks to the cooperation of the Nara city fire department (and Nara mascot Sento-kun) they were able to conduct the test:
The child-sized dummy was thrown 13.7 meters. Such power would probably clean one’s butt pretty well, but inside a bathroom it would probably throw a person into a wall and cause serious injury.
Those interested in how the experiment was set up can watch the making of clip here.

I was always afraid of those crazy high-tech toilets with more buttons than my microwave.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to sit on one now.

I dare say that such force behind the water would likely cause water to rush in and cause severe internal damage.

I’m glad to see that the show trivia no irezumi is still around conducting crazy, but mostly interesting experiments. I would definitely hate to be on the receiving end of that.
@Hamachiman: Basically. They conduct experiments based on viewer requests….not necessarily based on myths or urban legends. Some examples include: “How Many Tissues Does It Take to Stop a 9mm bullet” and another experiment where they test the strength of bullet proof glass with an RPG.

Don’t forget the “Which is stronger: a katana or an M2 .50cal machine gun?”
THAT was a classic, and a worthy successor to “Which is stronger: a katana or an M1911 .45 caliber automatic pistol?”

Do what you want, but remember, you get to clean up whatever mess you make.

Toribia no Izumi can be pretty funny, but it can also be pretty juvenile. I remember one episode where they had a conversation that went something like this:
A: “Do you know how to say あえぐ (pant, as in pant like a dog) in English?
B: “No, how do you say it?”
A: “パンツ” (“Pants,” as in the British meaning of underwear).
And then they were both sniggering. I mean, I’m talking grown men here.

My favorite along those lines was “There is a variety of rose called ちんちん!” and then a full five minutes of video about how there was indeed a type of rose whose name sounded like “wiener.”

I remember the first time I went to japan and hit the wrong button on one of those high tech toilets and got the spritz for the first time in my life. To me it might have been the fire hose, Ive never jumped so high in the air in my life!

Of course you will all know about the Japanese prison guards who murdered an inmate in this way a few years ago. They got suspended sentences.
I bet the TV program didn’t mention that.
