Gourmet burger restaurants in Tokyo

What is your favorite burger restaurant?

If you’ve never tried any private one unlike McDonald’s, Mos, Lotteria, First Kitchen, or the ones that you can find anywhere else, here are examples of yummy burger restaurants in Tokyo that are strictly selected by the subscribers of Tabelog.

10: Fire House
Double cheese burger is most popular and it’s for 1523yen.

9: 1010 Noel Drive
1010(ten-ten) burger is for 1010yen.

8: The Great Burger
Bacon cheese burger is most popular and it’s for 1250yen.

7: Village Vanguard Dinner
Pepper & cheddar melt burger is highly recommended and it’s for 1050yen.

6: Burger Mania
The owner of “Fire House(10/10)” and “The Great Burger(8/10)” opened Burger Mania 2 years ago. Ultimate blue cheese burger is highly recommended and it’s for 1300yen. Platinum burger (1500yen)is available with a limited quantity. It’s made from 3 slices of Kuroge Wagyu beef, not minced beef!!

5: Brothers
Lot burger as tall as 13cm is good. It’s for 1500yen.

4: Sunny Diner
Bacon egg 2×2 burger is for 1580yen.

3: Reg-on Diner
The owner of “Brothers(5/10)” opened Reg-on Diner but they are totally different tastes. ABC burger (Avocado/Bacon/Cheese) is for 1250yen.

2: Baker Bouce
Bacon cheese burger is for 1155yen.

1: Fellows
Chilli beans cheese burger is for 1500yen. It’s absolutely good.

Which burger do you like or dislike?
I’ve never tried any private burger restaurants because I feel like chooseing something else if I have to pay 1500yen for lunch. I’d like to try ABC burger(3/10) and chilli beans cheese burger(1/10) if I have a chance. :p

agreed… i know it’s japan… but it’s still Ground Beef. even if it is Gourmet. i think id pay at most 900 Yen for a burger.

Have you ever been to a restaurant in the states? Many places charge that much for a good burger.

One should always get what you pay for seriously. Why is it you always have to always ask for ketchup and mayonnaise.
If you want top quality, then its a higher price. Pay 1,000 yen for a burger over a Mcdonalds burger anyday, because any burger is way better than Mcdonalds hands down.
Mcdonald’s is the poor man’s burger place.

Soy if you want low quality, then pay a low price

No, the poor man’s burger place is Eat-Run operated by the Saizeria family restaurant chain.
Their burgers are extremely cheap, going for 300 yen for an entire combo with cheeseburger, fries, and a drink. Mind you, it’s Japanese sized, but it’s still beats McDonalds any day in terms of cost performance. The taste isn’t that bad either … for the price anyways.

Compared to that, McDonalds is only average.

And thankfully Burger King is putting out more stores in the Tokyo region, which IMO beats McDonalds in taste any given day.

Yeah, McDonald’s is the average man’s burger place. Another poor man’s burger place is Dom-Dom. Cheap and horrible.

And see even in the U.S there are some higher quality burger places where you would pay just the same.
One place for a burger is 14 dollars for example.

If its worth every yen, then go for it!

Kobe beeb and buffalo burger that sells is also over 10 dollars as well, too much whining. If you have the money you wouldn’t grouch over it

Worth trying. I would like to propose that Kanto’s best has a grill-off with Kansai’s best, Awajishima burger found in a little shack by the fruit market in Nishinomiya http://www.web-joho.com/awaji/ .

I was wondering if there were something in between fast food and fancy restaurant for burgers.
Like a diner or burger-stand type place like you linked to.

McDonald’s is not that bad at least in the states, a Quarter pounder w/cheese can sometimes hit the spot. Back at Home I prefer “Carl’s Jr. or In n’ Out” they make burgers for those with a ferocious, nasty, dungeon appetite!
In Japan, I like the “Sasebo Burger” in Sasebo near the Naval Base. Great stuff. It is pricey a bit over ¥1000 but it is a beast, hands down(even for American standards) eat one of those babies and YOU WILL be full for the rest of the day.
Just wish Japanese people would stop slathering the Mayo on everything, Grosss!!!! Like its going out of style! Any intelligent human with sensible rational thought process knows that you never, ever put Mayo on a Burger, makes me want to slap people when I see that!

Americans do put mayo on their burgers, generally speaking. If you order a burger in the US and don’t specify, it’ll almost certainly have mayonnaise on it. Carlos’ particular, violent opinions on the matter have no bearing one way or the other.

Some fast food chains put mayo on their burgers(some BK and Wendy’s burgers at least). The super-cheap, super-crappy places like McDonalds and White Castle/Crystal never do unless it’s a specialty burger.

Honestly, in the states, ANYTHING is better than McDonalds’ burgers. They taste ok if they’re fresh enough, but they’re the worst possible quality meat and if they sit for more than about 5 mins it’s just a greasy nasty mess.

Yeah man, a little mayo is not bad but I agree with you and some Japanese obsession with mayonnaise. It has put in some tight spots at times.

Fast food burgers are generally not worth eating (In-n-Out is OK, but I can’t say the meat itself is outstanding; Mos Burger makes interesting sandwiches but … ). I hope Kirin will do herself a favor and try a quality burger at some point.

Nice post. if I ever get to travel to Japan I’ll have to try these out and see how they stack up compared to our burgers here in the US.

I dunno how they compare to the listed ones, since I’ve never eaten any of them, but I’m fond of Kua’aina, and the best burgers I’ve had in Japan have been at Wolfgang Puck’s (specifically at Puck’s Cafe, but I would assume the other Wolfgang Puck restaurants would be equally good).

I like the Gusuto KINGU Burger at Gusto. It’s a nice size, decent taste, comes with fries and at lunch a soup or salad and it’s only like 698Y. Less greasy and cheaper then the McBurgers.

nothing really fancy on it, just orange cheese, Lettuce, Onions, Ketchup, Mustard and some sauce that no one in the restaurant is 100% clear on what the hell it is. (Sometimes mayo, sometimes tartar sauce, sometimes 1000 island dressing. Depending on the cook they change it I guess…Or the waitresses just don’t know.)

Would be like 10x better with bacon.

But yea, I’m not big on the idea of paying over 1000Y for a burger. I can buy enough supplies to make a couple of fancy pants burgers for 1000Y

So goes with any food item bought prepared for you. You COULD do the same at home for less, though not much less is my experience. Also, the people making your food have to have an overhead. I don’t really see your point, unless it’s some sort of principle of never buying any prepared food because you could do it cheaper yourself – in which case, good for you =)

Mayo just sucks, its the most disgusting thing ever! Not to mention putting on a burger and I won’t start to talk about the fries, every time I go to Germany, Uugghhh! Coming from LA and having lived in NY for a couple of years. I really had my share of gourmet burgers, exotic ones with that. Bacon, Avocado, all the trimmings…yummm!
Actually, I’m not a big burger guy myself, but when I eat one, it has to be the best!
Pound for pound, I don’t care where you come from. Unless you try “In n’ Out” you just don’t know living! Family owned, making the burgers to order, so you have to wait a while. But the taste….
At least they don’t kill their burgers with Mayo!!!

Saru-ya in Kyoto makes the best burger I have ever had in my life. 1000 yen for an avocado burger, perfectly seasoned, cooked until it’s juicy…
Not to mention the place itself is pretty cool.

Another place that had good burgers is the St. Luke’s Tower restaurant
in Tokyo. Hope they still serve them and that actually came with fries.
But overall regarding burgers Oregon Grill is just better
The hamburger is just made right and it doesn’t go way overboard like some of them from the list.

Man you people are making me hungry. My family doesn’t eat burgers because of ow bad they are for you. And we most certainly do not eat out if we can help it! I think that mayo is disgusting in large amounts but as long as you use it in moderation it’s ok. And those burgers sounded really good!

Burgers aren’t necessarily bad for you. If made with lean beef and fresh vegetables. Fries on the other hand are filled with fatty calories. But if eaten in moderation, a nice burger with fries is really not bad for you, as long as you generally keep a healthy diet.

I agree with your list except for number 1 and 7, other than that, the rest are pretty good. But if I go to Outback, I would rather eat a slab of Ribs! That juicy BBQ sauce on those fries…awesome!

Not just in Japan, also abroad higher quality burger places will charge you more.
Example Dallas, Texas Victory Tavern 14 dollars for the burger with applewood bacon.

Those burgers in these videos look delicious I would want to try the ABC burger myself even if it is nearly 15 bucks. Honestly what was striking to me was the person who did the music editing for this feature when I was hearing “through the wire” at first I thought for a second my speakers were picking up on radio signals.
