Sitting Dog in Japan

February 7th, 2010 by James

Meet Ban, a dog in Ibaraki prefecture that loves to a climb and sit atop a wall:

Her owners claim she learned to do this on her own, probably because she was bored with being restricted to a narrow space and wanted a better view of the neighborhood.

Agreed, but you pretty much have to live in the country and not have a fence to really give big dogs the space they need. Or at least let them live in the house so they can get enough attention. Even cats don’t get enough room in Japan’s tiny apartments, though.

I’m sure the pet owner has clean conscience when he did that.

“nobody without adequate space should be a pet owner.”

Here in Asia, that scene is very normal, I don’t know about your place though as to why you have that reaction…

Why do Japanese people get dogs if they’re just going to chain them up all day long? It’s like Japan still has that backwards typical Oriental style of animal cruelty to dogs.

Yeah as if there aren’t people in North America or other countries who don’t do the same to their dogs. You’re a dufus.

Thats because when after school children walk pass the house its possible that6 the dog gonna bite. In Japan we must also tie up the dog at afternoon. We had an accident .Our old dog bit a child after school and my grandmother got negative Responce from the neighbours.

And this is mostly pure instinct on top of that, dogs do this to defend their territory. Dogs don’t have to learn this necessarily.

Also being able to climb the wall like this is not difficult, even with the chain he has on.
Dogs don’t have much room to roam about around here, and not enough dog parks either. Feel bad for the pooch being cramped in such tight spaces. I dunno why it always has to be concrete lol, concretes ugly. Use Brick at least.

Stupid question but:
Why does the sculptor keeps his awful hairpiece? Is there some cultural thing that I’m not aware of saying taht bald guys are ugly, even if it’s better than having a dead animal on someone’s head? Or is it just the guy being uncomfortable with his lack of hair?

Its very obvious the dog wants freedom.
Its apparent the guy has a hair loss issue, guess he doesn’t know about hair club for men lol

There needs to be more dog parks. Not enough parks in general by the way. Balance is needed.
Where can dogs roam about freely here?
I feel this dogs pain

I don’t like the fact that this owner has the poor dog on a short leash which he should know right off the bat very well that the dog is at most risk of falling off the wall.

This is just total lack of common sense on his part period.
This man should not even own a dog if he can’t have simple common sense like this.

It doesn’t look short in the video. The leash seems like it has enough slack for the dog to drop on the other side without choking.
