Battle of the Japanese deliverymen

A Japanese TV show picks a location in Shibuya that is of equal distance from three food delivery businesses [Domino's Pizza/ Shanghai Express/Hishizen Sushi] so it can test who can make and delivery meals at the quickest speed:

The results are as follows:

Hishizen Sushi – 19 minutes 55 seconds
Shanghai Express – 20 minutes 3 seconds
Domino’s Pizza – 20 minutes 14 seconds

The delivery times are so close that no chain gets bad PR out of the television appearance. At the very least, each place seems to have known exactly which order was to be filmed, so it might not be a good idea to take this as an example of typical speedy responses. [From my experience ordering from nearby pizza places, it usually takes about an hour in the evening.]

What part of “deliberately picked a location equidistant from three delivery joints to compare delivery times to the same address for the purposes of a TV show” did you miss?

they were on TV….

would the results have been any different
if the test was conducted in a real world?
(i.e. not letting them know it’s a TV show)

I worked for a Papa John’s in the states for several years, and everything they showed was a typical run through of making a pizza, almost verbatim to how it was when I was there.

Even the layout of the store, and the model of the pizza oven, were EXACTLY the same as the store I worked in. 20 minutes is not anywhere near an unrealistic delivery time.

It only takes 5-6 minutes to make the pizza, if the delivery guy leaves right away with it that leaves 14 minutes to get to their door which should be plenty for most delivery areas without heavy traffic.
And

They shouldn’t have told them it was a TV show.

Domino’s should be the fastest to deliver, as it’s apparent the company is pretty desperate right now….here in the US their commercials seem pretty hard-up for customers because of all the complaints they received about their pizza being…well, less than standard quality.

They should have also judged the food to see which
one tastes best… which one reigns supreme….

I think it’s pretty irrelevant to compare these results, they only differ by 19 seconds. I’m pretty sure if I wanted dominoes, I would be willing to wait the 19 seconds.

I figure the results could have as likely been changed as not. But I think it’s unlikely to debate one side or the other.

What we need now is for someone to test this.
