Beat Takeshi speaks English

It seems like Takeshi Kitano has been starring in ECC English learning commercials for a long time now, but in every commercial I’ve seen, he has avoided actually speaking English. Here’s the latest one, in which Takeshi makes an announcement in English

Takeshi has some facial disfigurement from that motorbike crash a few years ago. Would that affect his speech?

His speech is definitely affected even in Japanese, so is in English.

Sorry I hit Post too early. I meant to add that his voice is difference so I would say the crash has affected his speech.

Also, he spoke English a little in Brother (Aniki?) ten years ago. Definitely sounds different but still very understandable.

I can’t really blame Kitano for slurring and talking strange…half his face is paralyzed from a motorcycle accident..so its pretty hard for him to lift his lips.

Yeah, he doesn’t talk strange and slur in Japanese.

I saw all 3 versions of these commercials. In regards to the filming, I dont think Beat Takeshi is in the same room. So it gives me the impression of xenophobia.

i m an idiot, because I have an opinion that
ECC marketing reused the Beat Takeshi scene 3 separate times with 3 different teachers on the opposite panel. This could mean that filming was done over several days and Beat Takeshi probably never met any of these 3 teachers.

I love Beat Takeshi and his movies, but if he s going to be the spokes person for a major english learning company then they could actually have him in the same place learning english. Rather than being in a completely different panel, saying its important, but being xenophobic about it.

ECC marketing isnt effective… thats my opinion.

That’s not gibberish, those same things were mentioned and written on the board in a Business English class that I took once.

………… the first time watching this, I understood Kitano’s English but thought the (?) Australian (?) guy was speaking Spanish or something. His accent is much stronger than most! *NOT* saying anything about right/wrong way to speak English, AT ALL, just mentioning that I personally couldn’t understand it until replaying the clip a second time. I found it ironic, a bit.
