I think leitmotiv is trying to comment how that in Japan, race COULD equal nationality because of the many platitudes that Japanese arent used to concepts of multiculturalism so are always in the state of US and THEM.

As for your article, Japanese don’t consider Taiwanese as 人種, it is rather nationality. So it just counts as an counterexample to your “theory”.

I look forward to multiple editorials in Japanese newspapers calling for Hiranuma to STFU about Renho not being “Japanese enough” and stop adding to Japans image problem on this topic – since (according to Japan Spokesperson Ponta) he is so out of touch Japanese public sentiment of 人種 vs nationality.

BTW Hisranuma’s use of the word “Japanese” is consistent with Japanese as a citizenship. Did he say she is not Japanese enough?

leitmotiv, I am asking if he said she was not Japanese enough whatever you meant by “Japanese enough”

(in the context, it is clear, he was using the word “Japanese” as the one who got Japanese citizenship. In this sense, she is Japanese enough to be Japanese in hiranuma’s sense.)

And Leitmotive, you’ve made two claims I’ve never heard of.

1)Nationality is equal to race in Japan
2)Nationality is equal to race only in Japan.

We are talking about the first claim, and I am asking what you meant by “race’ here, because if we don’t have clear idea about what we are talking about, the discussion is useless.

And I think that is game, set and match right there. What Leitmotiv is saying is the same as “Pat Robertson’s comments about Haiti made the news because Americans really believe what he said.”

And is it just me, or is it a little convenient how Leitmotiv latches onto the Hiranuma incident mere hours after the Sage of Hokkaido starts making noise about it, using the same obscure news source?
