Angry passenger tries to kick taxi driver
January 14th, 2010 by James

A drunk guy gets into a taxi, becomes enraged when he mistakenly believes the taxi driver was rude to him, and proceeds to deliver mighty kicks in the direction of the driver:
The best part? Despite the fact that he was angrily demanding compensation from the driver, when the ride was over, the passenger paid the fare.

Jeez, that driver has incredible patience. If that was America, the driver would have pulled over and kicked his ass before dropping his battered, drunken body on the side of the road.

Do foreigners in Japan tend to turn themselves in to the police?
Or is Japanese police intentionally not arresting this guy because he looks and speaks like Japanese?

The police aren’t arresting him because it would mean having to actually get off their butts and do some work. The taxi driver should have stopped at the nearest koban with the guy still in the back (in his state he probably wouldn’t have noticed where they were) and asked the cops to deal with him.

Interestingly many, if not all, taxis do have a distress signal whereby if the driver presses a button in the cab a red distress light activates on the roof to attract attention. I saw a taxi flagged down by cops at a koban one time because, apparently, he had activated the emergency signal accidentally.

In Australia, most taxi drivers are enclosed in a thick plastic shield.

I heard they were also bullet proof

Yeah, why don’t they have shields?
Also, if I was that driver I would knock the shit outta that guy and just dump him somewhere.

He does have a shield right behind his head, but apparently not a very strong one, as the guy breaks it at the 1:00 mark.

kudos to the driver that put up with such shit.

There are no shields because incidents like this are rare in japan as is most crime. (or at the very least unreported).
Therefore, it depends on the insurance plan of the driver and the willingness of his cab company to decide if it is more cost efficient to install one in every cab or is it cheaper to pay a single cab driver for being injured on the job.

In Europe, I heard some taxis have electroshock installed in back seats. Illegal, but technology are there.

The driver should have kicked his ass.

It really pisses me off that his face is hidden by a mosaic. He is obviously committing a crime so why should his identity be obscured? Let the world see this childish asshole for what he is. Piece of shit scumbag who’s ass I would gladly kick back to last week.

He didn’t use his fists because his matchstick arms would snap.

After almost getting rundown by a taxi driver going straight through the 止まれ sign tonight, I’d like to reenact this scene in his cab! Taxi and Bus drivers have to be the worst drivers in Japan!
