Japanese nail art

    big nails

A look at some pretty crazy Japanese nail art:

Included in the clip is Yoko Matsuda, a specialist in creating 3D nail art (which is apparently all the rage among a certain subset of gyaru). One of her nails has a Hello Kitty “snow dome” on it. As a demonstration of how difficult it is to create this kind of stuff, Shinichi Karube miserably fails to paint a heart onto someone’s nails.

Karube also encounters some men who like to have their nails done. If one is in a line of work in which customers see your hands, having nice-looking nails can be important. Women supposedly check men’s nails, and even men look at fingers when business cards are exchanged.

The last part of the clip shows the winners of a nail art contest.

Chimpanzee attacked by evil blow dryer

    for your amusement

“Shimura Zoo” recently aired some old footage of Chimpanzee super performer Pan-kun and his dog buddy James taking a winter adventure:

In the clip they: 1) ring a bell of happiness, 2) say hello to a parrot, 3) fool around in a dog salon, and 4) go rolling on a cart.

    Watermelon Half-pipe

    half pipe

A truly glorious work of performance art:

As we can see from the second half of the clip, this feat is not easy!

Charges dropped against 3 of 4 American military brats

    the incident

An update on the case of the four American teens suspected of stringing a rope across a street and causing a traffic accident that nearly killed a Japanese motorcyclist:

Japanese prosecutors dropped cases Friday against three of the four American teens suspected of attempted murder, according to U.S. and Japanese officials.

The fourth case was referred to family court, which in Japan handles cases involving people 19 and younger. The family court judge has as long as eight weeks to decide whether to treat the suspect as a minor or refer the case back to the adult criminal justice system. No charges have been filed.

Also on Friday, Japanese officials released all four teens — a 15-year-old, two 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old — to their parents, according to Air Force spokesman Maj. Christopher Watt. He said the families and military officials are continuing to cooperate in the case.

The 19-year-old, whom the other teens claimed was to blame for the incident, may face charges of “causing injury and obstruction of traffic,” rather than the attempted murder charges originally considered by Japanese authorities.
