Japanese nail art
A look at some pretty crazy Japanese nail art:
Included in the clip is Yoko Matsuda, a specialist in creating 3D nail art (which is apparently all the rage among a certain subset of gyaru). One of her nails has a Hello Kitty “snow dome” on it. As a demonstration of how difficult it is to create this kind of stuff, Shinichi Karube miserably fails to paint a heart onto someone’s nails.
Karube also encounters some men who like to have their nails done. If one is in a line of work in which customers see your hands, having nice-looking nails can be important. Women supposedly check men’s nails, and even men look at fingers when business cards are exchanged.
The last part of the clip shows the winners of a nail art contest.

I have to say, when I clicked on the title of this post I expected to find crazy art made from actual nails. The ones that you hammer into a board. You’ve let me down Japan. I won’t soon forget.

Ewww … er, um, I mean, “I personally don’t see the appeal in it”.
Overdecorated nails seems to be one of the things that women do thinking it’s cute but men just don’t get, or actually find them unappealing and a turn-off. I don’t speak for all men, but at least the ones I’ve heard opinions about it seemed to agree with me for the most part.
Personally, a little color is fine, but any more and it starts resembling fingernail warts, all the way up to “zomg parade floats is eating ur fingerz !!1! NOMNOMNOM”

Being a fan of idols, I’ve always been interested in the little ribbons and things a few of the girls put on their nails. I actually think they look pretty cool.
