How….how do you survive that as a pilot?

Supposed to go to fly as kamikaze pilot, but war ended etc.

In fact, some of these guys interviewed in the film did take off for the kamikaze mission. One guy’s plane had an engine failure and crash-landed near an island, where he spent 82 days. About the other pair on the bomber plane, they got intercepted by F4U Corsairs, dropped all the bombs in the process of reducing the weight, used up the ammunition, they came to their senses and decided to abandon the mission.

Be aware that for some reason, there are no subtitles in the documentary streamed on the New Day digital site even though there are in the trailer.

This includes veterans talking of their experiences to camera (with voice-overs in English, not subtitled) and an account of the kamikaze ‘Thunder God’ squadron:
