These probably are atheists in the basic sense, as in they don’t believe in creationism, don’t follow a specific monotheistic religious doctrine, and don’t think there’s a bearded or noodly dude in the sky that sees everything.
But if you try to define it as the denial of the supernatural or spirituality as a whole, I think the numbers would be much lower. Belief in wandering spirits and lurking ghouls is a national pasttime (obsession) after all …

As a Christian, I find that statement a hopelessness to Japanese. If atheists, they endanger no one else but their own eternal spirits. If Islamist, they become a violent threat to anyone else in society, including atheists. God created man with inalienable rights. Which means those rights come only from God. As atheists, God is rejected as creator and those rights are not realized. As Islamists, a wedge of submission to Mohamed (who is Islam’s real Allah), is placed between man and God. I am a Christian. That is a sad comment on the hopelessness of the Japanese. As atheists, they pose no threat to society but to their own eternal spirits.

No, the Bible does not explicitly condone warfare and the oppression of all other religions. Even if it did it would be a specious argument as the discussion is about Islam. Saying “yeah well they do it too” isn’t an advancement of the issue.

Jesus set the bar pretty high with turn the other cheek and do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Islam sets the bar low with do unto other Muslims as you would have them do unto you, but to all unbelievers, fight them wherever ye find them.

It’s true most of the bacon I see sold here is some type of ham. I think it is not cured or not cured properly, but the cut looks similar to what I am used to. At any rate half bacon isn’t even half as delicious as full bacon. You can find “real” bacon here but usually only in a specialty store.

But maybe you should look at some of the poll’s about the “Swiss referendum”. In Germany, it was supported by a huge majority (in ALL polls always more than 70%) of the German people.

Sharia law is part of their way of life, and they tried to have it recognized in British law. You may find it acceptable to be whipped for drinking a beer or wearing trousers, but I certainly don’t. And I find the Halal way of slaughter to be particularly cruel and unnecessary.

Sharia law is NOT part of Indonesian law, Sharia law is only enforce in certain provinces in Indonesia. While Islam forbids the consumption of alcohol, you won’t find any Quranic verses or Hadiths that allows one to whip a woman for wearing trousers. Again you need to learn to differentiate custom and religion.

You never really been to a slaughter house have you? Just watch Food Inc. and you’ll know what i mean. For food to be considered halal, the animal that was slaughtered must be healthy, fit and quickly slaughtered. Now compared that to the modern slaughter house technique.

Women don’t have rights in Islam, they are chattel. Under sharia a woman is owned by a man from birth to death. Women have no choice about what they are forced to wear and if they are raped they must provide four male witnesses to the rape or they are guilty of committing adultery. The punishment for adultery is death.

Further, because Muhammad had a 6 year old bride it is acceptable for male Muslims to be pedophiles and have 6 year old brides now, though they have to wait until the little girl is 9 before consummating the marriage because that’s what Muhammad did.

Some additional information by me; this clip seems to be taken from a NHK BS1 debate program “Generation Y“, a monthly “international” program with participants like students from abroad. The clip above starts with a speech by a woman from Egypt (Muslim), appealing the necessity of “religious education”, here she suggests learning various religions all over the world if possible, in addition to the current moral education in Japan. I couldn’t really understand much of the video clip but it’s an interesting topic. I think studying religion can be very interesting. Although I am an atheist, I enjoy a lot of the religious stories and histories. In fact it’s difficult to teach history without including something about religion since it was the motivation for many historical events. A lot of people in the world believe in various religions, I don’t see a problem in knowing about them. As long as it is made clear that these studies are based on theory and not fact.
Now obviously if someone wants to attend a school that actually teaches a certain religion as fact then it would have to be entirely optional.

Surprising how people who I thought were at least averagely level-headed and rational suddenly go ballistic when Islam comes into the conversation.

It’s my understanding that the teachings of the Holy Bible are filled with all sorts of cruelty, violence, and intolerance, just as much as the Quran has. It’s just that the widely accepted modern interpretation of the Bible has been watered down significantly so that Christians aren’t supposed to take parts like the one about slaying those who reject God too literally.
And because the vast majority of normal sane Muslims of the world are apparently leading normal lives, I assume that’s the case with them too.

It’s surprising to see so many people assume that Islam itself is the root of all sorts of terrorist jihad philosphy that plagues the world today, and not just a convenient tool of justification used by these evil people.
If somehow the world today had a reversal of the balance of socioeconomic influences of countries bewteen Christian cultures and Islamic cultures, I think there would be many more radical fundamentalist Christians who feel their way of life is being threatened by the other. Some will likely lash out using terroristic ways, using passages from the bible as justification.

I myself have a dim view on religion as a whole, partly because of these contradictions and absurdities that are so easily exploited …

I´m very well aware about the crimes commited in the name of the christianity, thank you. We have, in the west a tradition of criticism of our own civilization. The same thing we can not tell about islam. When a islamic one criticizes islam is not a muslim anymore. And this makes a big difference.
in helical’s comment we can see that any criticism towards islam is view as ballistic statement.It´s a regular islamic paranoia. I only show facts of islam practices. Everywhere in the world islam develops pressions by all means (violence included) to subvert non-islâmic cultures and ways of living. The host countrys and people have to accommodate to islamic interests (islamization of society) and not the other way round.
I may remember also that the borders of the islamic countries are well known as the “blood borders” because islam is expansionist and violent by nature. We can see jihadist behaviour in, Philipines, Thailand, Caucasus, Sudan (Darfur), Palestine, Maroco (west sahara)…
As i said before, islam have many faces (hilal’s face too) but only one purpose. Establish islamic jurisprudence by any means available.

James, this post just got right under my skin. Good job, as usual, with your site. The other post that got under my skin was the post about Tokyo’s huge Bangladeshi population. Someone in Japan’s government needs to get their act together and start deporting people en masse back to Bangladesh.

Let’s face it, Japanese people need to wake up when it comes to the threat that Islam represents to their country. That’s right. Islam is one of the most arrogant, hate-filled, and oppressive ideologies ever created.

Oh sure, they will tell you just how “peace loving” they are until they slowly take over your country and then change all of the laws. When that happens, you will definitely find out just how “peaceful” Islam is when you have to pay the non-believer tax or have to wear special clothing to identify yourself as a non-Muslim or any of the other “freedoms” you will be able to enjoy that goes with your second class status, such as honor killings, women being forced to wear body coverings in public, and the various other acts of intimidation that will be thrown at you by the Islamists.

Under an Islamic government, the first to go will be all of those peace-loving, dope smoking, leftist-leaning, multi-culti types who are willing to believe Islamic propaganda that Islam is a “religion of peace”.

People need to educate themselves about the threat.
