The Japanese version of Wikipedia entry for Nomura’s jellyfish mentions on eutrophication rather than pollution of the Yellow sea, a place for jellyfish’s spawning, as one of possible reasons for this issue. Additional possible reasons listed there are, the destruction of the environment along Japanese shores and imbalance of the eco-system induced by excessive fishing. All of them are still mere hypothesis. Bigger than sumo wrestlers.
