Strange but funny…i could relate to those situations a bit…hahaha, GOO~~ WOLK. What gets me when I ask some students why they want to learn English, they say “because they are going to Italy or somewhere”…but why are they studying English. I don’t get it.

English is spoken all over the world friendo. My Japanese friend’s Italian husband speaks nearly fluent English (although he said his parents don’t.) Same reason you could study English and expect to use it when visiting most places in Europe, even if it’s not the traditional language in said country.
What blows my mind a bit more is people who spend $1000’s on English lessons for a 4 day trip to L.A. or something. I think it’s admirable, but just a waste of time and money when they never do a dang bit of practice outside of class (!!)

Most people think that English is understood in many countries because it is tought in most schools as a second language. Also, English is seen as the lingua franca ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingua_franca ) of the internet.
Therefore it is only logical that people who want to visit one ore more foreign countries want to be aple to communicate at least in English. Of course, if you just go to one country, then learning that country’s language would make more sense. But who knows what other places you might visit in the future?

Didn’t strike me as funny, felt more like it was picking on people whose only sin was taking a language lesson.

Yea I agree…everyone makes mistakes when learning a new language. This guy is a total DB

Uh, how about the part where the guy said “I have cancer.” when asked “How was your weekend?” That’s not a language mistake.
Or the part where he has to sing in the kids class and they make fun of him? Not a language mistake.
Or the guy who asks “Why do you Americans go around the world killing people?”
Or the woman wearing the shirt with the marijuana leaf on it?
Or the guy who said the teacher looks like David Beckham?
Or the guy who says Americans have hamburgers for breakfast?
All not language mistakes, just humorous events in any eikaiwa teacher’s job. I know I’ve had almost all of them happen to me. Lighten up =p

Maybe those examples are not, yet the whole video reeks of with the stench of a cultural superiority complex. I too have had many similar experiences. Im not saying that these types of experiences aren’t, or can’t be funny, but rather that this video was more concerned with being mean spirited than being humorous.

Man I feel sorry for people doing the dumb Eikaiwa monkey business in Japan. What a way to lose brain cells doing this every day!!
