I couldn’t say from experience. I look and talk like a typical Japanese enough that I’ve never been carded. I’ve never seen anyone being carded neither.
The only time I caught the police’s attention was when I ran a red light on my bicycle at 12 AM on a deserted intersection …

So glad I don’t live in Tokyo…. Hopefully it will all be over before I next pass that way. Wonder if there is any extra gaijin carding going on? Debito hasn’t mentioned any.

Oh great, this must mean trash cans in the whole area must have been sealed off or removed again. Increased security is generally good but the trash can thing always drives me nuts.
