About what the father said concerning DNA and fingerprints:
He is very wrong about that. With today's technology it is indeed possible to alter one's DNA. Of course the technology is not available to the public, but it can be done with the right equipment. Also scientists have already shown that they can fake DNA evidence.
It is also possible to erase/change the fingerprints. They aren't as great for forensics anyway as the law system wants you to think. Studies have shown that it is not unlikely to receive a false positive when comparing fingerprints. There was an interesting discussion on slashdot about that a few weeks ago.

Well at least they now have a photo of his new "face" maybe they'll be able to catch him now. Unless of course he goes for more surgeries and becomes totally something else again.

according to news reports on the web,the surgery that he went to initially didn't recognise him because he's been in for surgery several times already and as you can see he hardly resembles the original wanted pictures at all. After the surgery they grew suspicious open reading case notes mentioning the removal of two moles matching the description of those put out by the police. They contacted the police, and the police attended when he was supposed to turn up for a follow up, but, yep, he didn't turn up.

So yeah I think everyone's being a bit too harsh in condemning the surgery he went to - sounds to me that they're the heroes in this new development and deserve recognition for their quick thinking. big ups I say.

How exactly did they come to the conclusion that this guy has had plastic surgery? I don't understand how they think it MIGHT have happened. What, did some doctor do the surgery then have a change of heart and tell the police that he MIGHT have given a murderer plastic surgery? Does he have friends or family that dropped the clue? If so, why is it just that he MIGHT have gotten surgery? This just sounds like Japanese cops trying to cover their ineptness. Guys couldn't even catch a damn monkey running around in a station.

One program yesterday morning had Ai Haruda as a panelist, going over the minutiae of the bodily transformation...I kind of really want to know what she had to say on the matter (seeing as how she's a plastic surgery 'participant' as well).
