<description>A Japanese team has won the World Solar Challenge, racing across the Australian outback an an average speed of 63 mph to wrest the title from a Dutch team that’s dominated the past four races.

Tokai Challenger from Tokai University crossed the finish line in Adelaide, South Australia, 29 hours and 49 minutes after leaving the northern city of Darwin. The car had a nearly flawless run over the 3,000 kilometer (about 1,864 miles) course, with only a flat tire briefly slowing it down. Second place went to Nuna 5 from Delft University, which had hoped for a fifth consecutive championship. The University of Michigan took third in Infinium.
