Robber shot in the leg, dies of blood loss

Evening news broadcasts on Japanese TV networks tend to use 10 or 20 minutes of each daily program to in-depth feature reports about interesting topics that aren’t necessarily big news stories. On the day Fuji TV was originally supposed to air its report about Billy Blanks’ new life in Japan, their normal schedule was messed up by the appearance of breaking news that required live coverage.
The remaining time in the program was not enough to air the Billy Blanks’ tape, so they instead dug into their emergency shocking video file. One of the shocking video clips showed a man with a knife attempting to rob a convenience store in South Korea:
The man’s crime was cut short when police appeared on the scene and opened fire. The robber was shot in the leg and dropped his knife. As police tackle the man, the narrator announces that he died of blood loss four hours later.
The program then immediately skipped to the next shocking clip, as if the incident in the previous video needed no further explanation. I think the video clip itself was supposed to elicit the 驚き response from viewers, but I was more surprised by the fact that there was no information on how the criminal could have bled to death…

Video isn’t loading for me for some reason but it’s possible that a bullet may have nicked one of the major arteries in the leg. Can’t really explain the “four hours later” part or any other details, but I do know that the right kind of damage to your femoral artery can kill you very quickly.

That was my first guess too – severed femoral artery leads to death in as little as a few minutes.

Really? Is this really how Japan fills out their news? With a “shocking clips” reel that isn’t even disguised as something else?

No worse than the mindless “let’s check out the latest viral videos on YouTube” filler you see all the time on the U.S. news. Hell, filler like this has been around for decades – though the “shock” aspect is debatable.

The robber should have been stealing first aid supplies.

He was only level 5 so he didn’t have enough hitpoints to withstand gunfire.

Is it possible Korea uses the same rules as Japan regarding pronouncement of death?
In Japan, IIRC, nobody officially “dies” until a doctor says so. Thus all the reports of people falling 15 stories, or getting cut in half by a train, and then being brought to a hospital and only THEN “dying”.

Get hit in the femoral artery and you’re going to exsanguinate rather quickly – from any position gravity is going to hurt you unless a medic clamps it within minutes, as there is no way to tourniquet such a wound.Four hours is an impressive amount of time to stay alive.

Maybe injurd criminals don’t receive medical treatment in South Korea?
Ok, jokes aside, the story sounds fishy. Either someone messed up big time or he really was announced dead quite some time after he actually died, or there were some complications with his wound.
