Robber shot in the leg, dies of blood loss

Evening news broadcasts on Japanese TV networks tend to use 10 or 20 minutes of each daily program to in-depth feature reports about interesting topics that aren’t necessarily big news stories. On the day FTV was originally supposed to air its report about Billy Blanks’ new life in Japan, their normal schedule was messed up by the appearance of breaking news that required live coverage.
The remaining time in the program was not enough to air the Billy Blanks’ tape, so they instead dug into their emergency shocking video file. One of the shocking video clips showed a man with a knife attempting to rob a convenience store in South Korea:
The man’s crime was cut short when police appeared on the scene and opened fire. The robber was shot in the leg and dropped his knife. As police tackle the man, the narrator announces that he died of blood loss four hours later.
The program then immediately skipped to the next shocking clip, as if the incident in the previous video needed no further explanation. I think the video clip itself was supposed to elicit the 驚き response from viewers, but I was more surprised by the fact that there was no information on how the criminal could have bled to death…
