The whole point of the Yamanote chaos is that the foreign elements are purposefully challenging the local JR security and police and law to see if the Japanese would do something about such a Terrorist-type activity of intentional trouble-causing and public disruption.

On a side note, people have been partying on “trains” ever since trains were invented – remember? It used to be romantic and all that to be able to travel in style on a train on a slow journey to somewhere dreamy and have a good time while doing it. This new interpretation is, in a way, an extension and re-stylization of that. Doing it legally, on a permitted, organized train is fine. It’s the illegal, ignorant, arrogant, purposeful disturbance by those Yamanote Yahoos that is creating this perception problem.

You know even Christmas in Japan is so unique in the world.
Eating strawberry shortcakes and KFC. Christmas cards are not necessary at all, but send Nengajo instead. For lovers, Christmas Eve is nothing but an occasion to make love. For those who don’t have lovers yet, the day means the time limit to find one. Christmas trees suddenly disappear as soon as 25th is over, and Kadomatsu takes its place all around.
Who would say “Oh, it’s not Christmas!” and try to reform it?
Of course you can also have a nice traditional Christmas at church if you hope, though.

It’s always amusing when people expect without question that their own traditions will be or should be accepted and grafted onto a foreign society that has no cultural basis or reason for paticipating in it.

A textbook case of how to do things right.

As pointed out in other Japan Probe article, the “other” Halloween train’s participants were acting in ways which antagonized the local population. As article also stated, many were overtly expressing that it was their way of getting back at Japanese people (whatever that means).

Yet, the anti Japan crowd focuses solely on the demonstrators and right wingnuts, instead of looking at the overall picture and the actions/attitudes which provoked such animosity in the first place.

Working with the local population and setting up an activity that anyone can enjoy and have fun with.
