Jumping Robot

Video of a new jumping robot developed by a venture company supported by Kyoto University:
The 38-centimeter-high and 1.6-kilogram robot, dubbed “Ropid,” was developed by the company’s president, 34-year-old Tomotaka Takahashi, over two and a half years. Boasting the highest jumping ability among humanoid robots, the Ropid can quickly bend its knees and ankles and jump to a height of eight centimeters using a built-in belt that links its joints. -Mainichi

Very clever.
But soooooo annoying after just a few minutes I’d have to smash it with a bat.

Whoa, that’s pretty movable for that sized robot.

The jump isn’t really what I expected … I say it’s cheating by retracting it’s knees in midair.
But the overall agility that let’s it do moves including the fake jump is still pretty darn impressive.

Wow, that thing really moves fast. Quite impressive. I wonder how long it can keep up with that speed before something breaks down. Must be a lot of stress on the motor.
